  • Started playing TOTK today, and honestly my two biggest complains are-

1: there's too much white in the menus imo. It feels like I'm on light-mode, lmao.
2: You can't switch Menu Tabs with the right stick anymore, so since I got super used to that, it feels weird navigating the inventory

also what the heck is "Light of Blessing" for this game's version of spirit orbs? It sounds like it was lost in translation, lmao. It would flow so much better as "Blessing of Light"

"Light of Blessing" caught me off-guard, too. But I guess it's a light/power that bestows blessings? It makes sense when you process it for a moment, but it's certainly not intuitive right away :P

My biggest complaint is that it took an hour to commit arson.
Started using a Window Manager by itself instead of a DE, and holy hell it feels so much better.

Intrusive thoughts are so annoying sometimes.

I just wanna be able to cook without my brain going: "Wanna know what would be an absolutely amazing idea? Sticking both your hands straight into 400 degree oil!"

Have you ever wondered if these intrusive thoughts come from somewhere else, like it's not an original thought? I mean, it sounds crazy, but it isn't as far-fetched as you may think.

After all, it happens to me too. I've even thought of doing things that I am adverse of doing!

I get voices sometimes due to my anxiety and depression, often telling me to do stupid things that I wouldn't do.

True. Problem is, my family is trying to move now, and we actually kinda need to move now. We're already financially fucked atm and finding a house that isn't in god awful condition for under 200k at the moment is.. difficult to say the least.

Tried shaving my legs cuz of a random impulse thought, and barely got halfway through the first leg before the razor just straight up died- lmao. So until I can get an electric razor to thin out the initial area I'm basically stuck with one half-shaven leg :rofl2:

Have you tried resorting to Nair or wax strips? Or perhaps buying a suitable razor?
    Korozin
    Korozin
I would if I could buy it, lmao. Problem is I can only really get razors by asking my parents for it, which they think I'm only using to shave my face. Haven't come out to them about anything yet so randomly asking for wax strips would seem kinda weird to them.

You can always try running live environments from a drive just to get the general feel of other distros. That way it'd be an isolated environment, and it wouldn't mess with your partitions unless you tried installing it :P

Yeah, that's what I did before installing Slackware, and I do plan on doing that with some distros. One I have my eyes on is Gentoo.

iirc Gentoo can be an absolute pain, but it's super customizable, so I'd say go for it.
I'm gonna finally try using Arch because I have literally nothing better to do :'D

How do you feel about other distros like Ubuntu, Mint, and many others? And what uses do they carry to your needs?
    Korozin

Ubuntu is.. meh. Mint depends. I like Cinnamon but it occasionally has memory leak issues, so once I got Mint working I went for the XFCE flavor. It worked, but I decided to switch in favor of learning Arch.

When it comes to what I use my installs for, it really depends. I do a lot of Qt development so it needs configurable Qt configuration and support. So usually DEs like XFCE and LXQt work fine for that.

The specs on my machine are low so I generally need light resource consumption which the ideal solution would be using a WM like i3, OpenBox or QTile instead of a DE, but that makes it a bit trickier when it comes to GUI development.

I don't really like GNOME that much tbh. But that's mainly the fault of my shitty PC making it supper sluggish, lmao. If GNOME is implemented correctly, it's actually a pretty nice Desktop Environment.

Why the actual hell do people not separate their root and home directories by partitions on their Linux install? If you do separate them, you can install another distro while keeping (most of) your files. 🤷‍♀️
    Seriel

For the folks who do this: what sizes did you pick for the two partitions?
    Korozin
    Korozin
@Seriel I have 1 TB for my disc space, so my partition list is around 512 MiB for boot, 100-ish gigs for root since I generally install a good amount of root stuff, and extra space never hurt. Swap around 8 GiB, depending on the PC, and the rest of the drive is just home. So I have around 900 - 800 GiB free space when it's done.

Right now I have a setup of 173GB Home, 84GB Root, 8gb Swap, 2 NTFS partitions, split between 300ish and 400ish gb (long story short, shared with Windows and Virtualbox stuff), and something like 1gb for bootloader shit because my laptop has a certain reputation of being a piece of shit and I cannot trust it anymore with memory allocation lol

mainly procrastinating on the QtGecko development since I can't fuckin test most of the code I write for it. So making a fork of someone else's NUS tool and improving it is a good time killer i can use until my friend tests the code, lmao.
