Tutorial [HOW-TO] Have a homemade Streetpass Relay

Looks like the Relay Points are soon being upgraded to give 6 passes per Nintendo Zone instead of 1. Here's a link to a Joystiq's blurb about it for those who missed the Nintendo Direct that announced this news.

Tutorial [HOW-TO] Have a homemade Streetpass Relay

Yeah, it's been scarce pickings this past week. (Mostly getting folks from Spain, interestingly enough!) I've been using the custom Atheros drivers for my physical wifi card, and the MAC address changes just fine on that bit. The problem comes from the virtual wifi miniport having the 0E...

Tutorial [HOW-TO] Have a homemade Streetpass Relay

Hey, a fellow 0E! I think I know your Mii, actually. If I'm right, I bet you're enjoying the healthy boost in numbers you get by destroying my army in Warrior's Way, haha.

Tutorial [HOW-TO] Have a homemade Streetpass Relay

Huh. Well that's mildly frustrating. I've been getting the same 6 people for the past two days. I wonder why that is? And as for dud addresses, pretty much 90% of the MACs that cycle through after the 16 "prime" MACs have shown as "Unidentified Network" and are unable to connect through my...

Tutorial [HOW-TO] Have a homemade Streetpass Relay

Getting mostly repeat passes so far, but I expected that. Although some of the MAC addresses I've gone through don't seem to connect at all. My physical NIC ends up showing as "Unidentified Network" when I arrive at a dud-MAC. Is this a common issue? And how difficult is it to get a setup...

Tutorial [HOW-TO] Have a homemade Streetpass Relay

Well, MACycle seems to be working great so far! I'm on my 4th MAC so far, and each one has yielded one pass each. No complaints here - with 100+ MACs to cycle through, that'll be plenty! It's surreal to get a decent number of streetpasses outside of a convention for once...

Sweet, it definitely sounds easier. I'll try it out later this evening and post the results.

Tutorial [HOW-TO] Have a homemade Streetpass Relay

Well then I don't feel so silly having bought the NIC. Making that work was hard enough to figure out, if the USB adapters are harder to recommend...yeesh. So now that I've got the setup working as best it can, (given the circumstances of the miniport's MAC address variations) how difficult...

Tutorial [HOW-TO] Have a homemade Streetpass Relay

Well heck, I'd be fine with the same people as long as I got 10 different people each time. But so far I've still only gotten the 1 pass from Japan. No kidding? Everywhere I looked, either it was insisted that only cards could be used, or no distinction was given. I've had a USB adapter this...

Tutorial [HOW-TO] Have a homemade Streetpass Relay

Hmm...Well that's a bummer. Do we know how this affects the amount of streetpasses received?

Tutorial [HOW-TO] Have a homemade Streetpass Relay

After installing the custom Atheros drivers as instructed by Radz, I've followed your final directions regarding macshift. The connections see each other, but the virtual wifi miniport's MAC is ever-slightly different. Physical NIC is 4E-53-50-4F-4F-46 Virtual miniport is...

It may well have done that. I'll reinstall the custom ones and see where that gets me. Is there a specific one I should be getting? The posting with the drivers says each one works with all chipset versions, but I just want to check if there's a recommended one or a more stable one.

Date modified is 1/21/2013, it says. EDIT: Just found this page, which lists some information about my specific NIC and its properties.

Tutorial [HOW-TO] Have a homemade Streetpass Relay

Taking a look at the driver I downloaded directly from TP-Link, it shows the file athr.sys, so I guess that's actually the intended driver. It also says the driver file version is 8.0.0.376. If I remember correctly, the custom drivers (same ones you provided a link to) went up to that version...

Tutorial [HOW-TO] Have a homemade Streetpass Relay

I'd gone to TP-Link's website and downloaded the latest drivers when I first purchased the device. I also tried installing an Atheros set after you'd brought up the name. In the same wall of data as the cmd window prompt you had me do earlier, it listed under "Files" that there were 2 in total -...
