  • DinohScene @ DinohScene:
tbf, I've replaced so much paste for customers n shit, I never had anyone complain about throttling under AC MX
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I flip flop on how expensive it is, 50 bucks if it lasts 2 years meh that's not much money but is like 2C worth the premium?
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
    Use ice cube on cpus

  • DinohScene @ DinohScene:

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I would like to see some long term data on these pastes. Like test then all new, then every six months.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
When temps finally spike that's the time to replace the paste.
  • DinohScene @ DinohScene:
feel free to conduct your tests on the machines I own
  • DinohScene @ DinohScene:
haven't replaced those pastes in quite a while lmao
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
That's the gripe with pre-built probably think superglue will work on a cpu

  • DinohScene @ DinohScene:
just stick your machine in the fridge

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I only do it when I am upgrading, or it's been a really really long time, like the OG Xbox I owned, modded it took out the clock cap and replaced the thermal paste, (lowered temps like 17C)
  • DinohScene @ DinohScene:
I always replace stock pastes on anything I own (except the Series X due to warranty I suppose and laziness lmao)

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I've seen so many xbox360's with dry paste, just crumbles right off, surprised they didn't burn up.

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They gonna use a self destruct paste in the future "Oh your console is 5 years old? No it's brand new...."
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
    Well 1st gen did

  • DinohScene @ DinohScene:
thermal paste is designed to fill in the microscratches on the IHS/heatsink so that a flat surface is achieved

  • DinohScene @ DinohScene:
thermal pastes are actually horrible heat conductors on their own

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
You get 10+ old consoles yeah they'll be dried up
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah couldn't they just like machine the stuff wayyyy better lol
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Liquid metal never really caught on
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Or just make the cooler part of the IHS skipping a whole step
  • DinohScene @ DinohScene:
I don't want to buy a copper slug that costs me 600 quid :x I'll take a few micro scratches over a billion fold increase in costs

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Ken that's because it's hard to work with and you don't want T 1000 jizz on your PC
  • DinohScene @ DinohScene:
25 years ago, CPUs came without IHS
