For anyone that's interested.

A Short Guide to Streaming Music with DSOrganize and Winamp SHOUTcast

What you'll need

DSOrganize 2.70 or latest built - http://dragonminded.blogspot.com/
Winamp - http://www.winamp.com
SHOUTcast Server - http://shoutcast.com/download/serve.phtml#scdownload
SHOUTcast DSP Plug-In for Winamp - http://shoutcast.com/download/broadcast.phtml

1. Install the SHOUTcast Server (SHOUTcast DNAS) and SHOUTcast DSP Plug-In (Nullsoft SHOUTcast source DSP) and have DSOrgnaize patch with DLDI on your DS.
2. In your router port forwarding setting page, add port 8000-8001 on both UDF/TCP for your IP Address.
3. Start "SHOUTcast DNAS". It should something like this, Click Me, with no error.
4. Click "Edit config" tab, and "INI" file should pop up. The default setting is fine, except for the "password" so change it. Edit any other settings if you like. Back to SHOUTcast DNAS, click "Kill server". Now run SHOUTcast DNAS again.
5. Run "Winamp", go to "Winamp Preferences" then scroll down to "DSP/Effect". Double click on Nullsoft "SHOUTcast source DSP" to open "SHOUTcast Source".
6. Click on "Encoder" tab, it should look like this, Click Me. Change the encoding setting to you liking.
7. Click on "Output" tab, in the address field; put "127.0.0.1" if you didn't edit the IP in the INI. Port should be 8000, Encoder set to 1. In the "Password" field, enter your password you enter in the INI file. Then click connect. If it connect, it should look like this, Click Me.
8. Your SHOUTcast server should look like this now, Click Me..
9. To test if your broadcast is working, find your PC IP, go http://www.showmyip.com/. In your browser, enter your http://PCIP:8000. This page, Click Me, should appear.
10. Time to make a playlist. Open Notepad, put the following in it except replace the PCIP with your IP and save the file as a *.PLS file.

----
[playlist]
numberofentries=1
File1=http://PCIP:8000
Title1=(#1 - 30/700) DS Test
Length1=-1
Version=2
---

11. Put the PLS file on your microSD. Run DSO and find your PLS, Click Me. Run it and if everything work out, it should look like this, Click Me. Your SHOUTcast should recognize DSOrganize, Click Me.

This is killer!!!!

Thanks so much for the beautiful guide. The pictures really helped me know that I'm on the right track. You set the bar high for guides!

I got everything working in about 10 minutes. The only problem is that it seems that the audio is playing a bit fast, like the song is sped up. I'll try changing some settings and get back.

why am i getting this? at step 7 after clicking connect.

[yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave error (nak)
[yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Please give your station a name (in the dsp plugin YP tab).)

i can't find this tab. it's also not in your guide.

EDIT: ah figured it out. YP stands for Yellowpages.

Thanks for the guide!

A question. Is it streaming straight to the DS or is it streaming to the internet and then the DS connecting to the net?

If it's the second one it'll take up bandwidth right?

considering you are able to check the status of your station online, I believe it is streaming like normal over the web.

Your DS will connect straight to your server/pc.

If your the only one listening (or you want listening) then you should set MaxUser to 1 in sc_serv.ini also you may want to PublicServer to never so you don't get listed on the shoutcast yp.

And make sure port 8000 is open and forwarded.

You could also get a dyndns.com account so you have a address like gbatemp.kicks-ass.net which will be constant compared with your actual ip which will change every time your pc starts.

Ha!! Perhaps I missed the obvious. Just add a playlist file from your favorite shoutcast station and DSO will play it!!! I thought it had something to do with your own station, it streams all shoutcast stations. Sweet deal. I can't wait for this to be added to moonshell.

    One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
