How to softmod your PSP!
For all PSP models!

PSP hacking/modding F.A.Q. (Start Here!)
README
This guide will guide you how to install CFW on your PSP, that's it. I won't be telling you which CFW is the best or which games, homebrew or plugins work.
Thanks to new CFW for 6.20 and 6.35, all PSPs users can now enjoy CFW and pirate til your download speed is capped.

IMPORTANT: If your PSP is above 6.20, you can downgrade (BRICK RISK) or stay on 6.35 and use semi-CFW. If your PSP is above 6.35, you're out of luck but you can still enjoy homebrew!HBL will not be covered in this guide[/p]
Important for new PSP 3000/Go users: Once you've installed PRO-B5 DO NOT DO THE PERMANENT PATCH YET.
Check in the system settings (where it tells your firmware version) and where your MAC address was it'll show your motherboard information. 01g-05g can use permanent, higher up can't.
IF YOU USE THE PATCH AND YOU'VE GOT A UNSUITABLE MOTHERBOARD, SUCKS TO BE YOU, YOU'VE JUST BRICKED YOUR PSP..
PSP 100X/200X users don't need to worry

- PC -
1. Download 6.20 official firmware for PSP 100X/200X/300X or PSP Go (You do not need to download this if you're already on 6.20)
2. Download 6.20 PRO-B5
3. Copy the UPDATE folder from the 6.20 OFW download to PSP/GAME (Not required if didn't download 6.20 OFW)
4. Copy 620PRO_Permanent, PROUPDATE and FastRecovery folder to PSP/GAME

- PSP -
1. Launch the 6.20 OFW update (Skip if didn't download)
2. Launch the 6.20 PRO-B Updater and follow the steps (The icon says UPDATE)
3. Launch the 6.20 PRO-B Permanent Patch (The icon says PERMANENT BOOTLOADER)
4. Enjoy!
FUCKING IMPORTANT: BRICK RISK. THERE IS A SLIGHT CHANCE OF BRICK, IF YOU FEEL LIGHTHEADED OR HAVE ANY OTHER SYMPTOMS, DON'T DO IT.
- PC -
1. Download Davees Downgrader
2. Download 6.20 official firmware for PSP 100X/200X/300X or PSP Go
3. Copy the Downgrader from the first download to PSP/GAME (For PSP Go it must be in the internal memory, don't know? Remove the M2 stick and carry on!)
4. Copy the update folder to PSP/GAME

- PSP -
1. Launch the update and follow steps
2. Enjoy!

When finished downgrading you might get a blue screen (don't worry, nothing to do with death!). Just press O and your system settings will be restored to default and your memory stick intact.
Readmeplz: This is semi-CFW, meaning you have to redo all this once you turn off your PSP! (Putting the PSP into sleep still keeps the CFW on) Don't worry though, you only need PRO-B files on your PSP once finished, not the 6.35 OFW update on there
- PC -
1. Download 6.35 official firmware for PSP 100X/200X/300X or PSP Go (You do not need to download this if you're already on 6.35)
2. Download 6.35 PRO-B5
3. Stick the UPDATE folder from the 6.35 OFW download to PSP/GAME (Skip if didn't download)
4. Copy the 635PROUpdate and 635FastRecovery folder to PSP/GAME

- PSP -
1. Update to 6.35 OFW (Skip if didn't download)
2. Launch 6.35PRO-B Updater and follow the steps.
3. Enjoy!

Note: When you turn your PSP, all you need to do is launch the Fast Recovery to get back into 6.35 PRO again

Easy right? I know!

Looks good so far Dean.

Now someone put GBAtemp on hold until I get time to write a guide for upgrading via pandora!

I suggest you also put the alternative to ChickHEN R2, mhuspeed 3. In my experience, it seems to be easier to activate, and I've been getting it to activate 100% of the time when I do it like this guy over here.

Oh yeah thanks to the people I asked to help with updating. Megaprops.

I already suggested the topics to be unstickied in for Wii backup loaders in the site suggestions topic
But they ignored me (like usual

Being a moderator, he can sticky his own threads (and actually have them go live stickied)

Yeah I was going to go in there but I'm out of troll repellent so sticking with getting the PSP section sorted. We'll have some new dedicated mods for the Wii section soon, though we don't know when we can.

Time being I'll look at what you said and do what is needed.

Well there are only 27 stickies in the entire Wii subforum.

Probably take ten minutes to gauge the relevance of each of them.

EDIT: Also suggest replacing WinRAR recommendation in the OP with 7zip, as it is free, supports more file formats, faster, and less resource intensive.

Like the new sticky, dean. Looks much better than having five threads on essentially the same thing (that were also outdated).

I'm trying to install ChickHEN but the game keeps freezing...
Should I keep trying to install it or what?

Its normal if it keeps freezing, once you see some colours flash you're on ChickHen.
Also if you have a 2K/3K, use MHUspeed

I had it freeze too until I tried it with a UMD in the drive (with autostart UMD off, of course) because I've read that may increase the chance of it working and it worked right after that. Now, it may just be a coincidence, I don't know...
