Tried looking for answers to this, but I beat metroid prime for the first time and wanted to get the fusion suit for hard mode. The problem is it requires you to hold start and select when you turn the gba on before you even connect it to the GameCube, leading it to the cartridgeless start up screen without the Nintendo logo. and every technique I tried to make it work hasn't yielded any results. it actually corrupted metroid fusion a few times even attempting to do it.

Is this an anti-piracy measure to make sure only real metroid fusion cartridges work or is there a way to autoboot metroid fusion from startup?

IS Metroid Fusion on the NOR flash? That would be my suggestion. But beyond that, you'd probably be better off just getting a bootleg with a battery, and SRAM-patching it.

alright I put it on the NOR and it connects now, but now it keeps saying the data link failed and I'm lost at what to do about it.

Edit: nevermind, it was just the default screen that shows up when fusion isn't in the gba. I need a way to autoboot fusion.

Boot your GBA first, and choose Metroid Fusion while holding the L button. This will boot the game through the BIOS. You want to press start+select at this time. Then, you want to turn on your Gamecube and start the connection.

EDIT: Since you're using a Definitive Edition, Mode B should also work.

If you use the Simple firmware, you can set the flashcard OS to do that automatically, and have the button code not do it. I would personally recommend it, it's much more convenient for when you need to multiboot with a cartridge inserted. (Pokémon event distributions say hello!)
