My wiis motors on the drive work like a mint, but my discs dont read. im concluding its because they have lots of minor scratches, but im asking if it might be the disc before i buy a new mario galaxy

Like shadow said, try other games.
If other games in better condition don't work, try cleaning the laser with some Isopropyl Alcohol on a qtip (the higher the percentage the better. 70% probably fine and seems to be more common in my area at least, but I tend to prefer 91% whenever I can get it)
If cleaning the laser eye doesn't work, the laser is probably burnt out. Same thing happened to my OG Xbox. Copying games into the hard drive so often caused it to just give up on me.
at first, just dance seemed to be the only functional game. after about it week, it just died. im pretty sure its not the drive itself since i got it fresh off of ebay 3 weeks ago, so ill be ordering a game in better condition to test, since just dance does have a fiar amount of scratches and smudges

It doesn't hurt to clean the laser emitter. I used a glasses cleaning cloth with handwash wrapped around a failed CD-R burn myself for the old Wii in the guest bedroom, but a bit of cardboard on a stick is probably better to wrap the cloth in.
