The first six Final Fantasy games are being re-released in Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster

Square Enix is re-releasing the first six classic Final Fantasy games. Rather than remaster them with new art-styles like they did in the mobile releases of the Final Fantasy games, this Pixel Remaster collection intends to keep the 2D pixel art that the games originally had, while still modernizing them. More information will be announced at a later date, but for now, Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster has been confirmed for PC and mobile devices.

LOS ANGELES (June 13, 2021) – During the SQUARE ENIX PRESENTS summer showcase, SQUARE ENIX® today announced that the six original FINAL FANTASY® titles that inspired a generation of RPG Fans are coming to life once more in the FINAL FANTASY pixel remaster series. Fans and newcomers are invited to dive into six masterpieces that bridge the ages with unique tales of epic adventure. The company will release the beloved titles individually, from FINAL FANTASY I through FINAL FANTASY VI, for Steam® and mobile platforms.

When I really want is a definitive version of VI to play, that can top the patched GBA version. I know we're probably not going to get that, especially after the attempt they made at the steam version.
Or maybe something similar to the upcoming VII remake for mobile? That would be pretty neat, but that's probably not going to happen ever. Really I think about it, having most of the people who worked for Square on the first six games left already? Doesn't that make this a little bit harder to do other than ports and Pixel perfect versions?

but aren't them already on Steam?
Steam doesn't have neither FF1 nor FF2. FF3 and FF4 are based on the DS versions, so the balance is different and both games use 3D chibi style, which some people apparently find "repulsive".

Also, there are no FF bundles on Steam, you have to buy each game separately anyway.

FF3 DS is closer to the original than FF4. The balance is still slightly different with number of monsters possible in encounters and maybe some other stuff if I remember correctly. Is the number of hits your party members can perform different? FF4 DS's balance practically makes it an entirely different game from the original.

Well FF4 had to make with the totally new augment system that you can really break the game with (up until the superbosses at least)

Shitty redrawn sprites + untouched backgrounds + awful "touch" menus + stupid 3D polygonal buildings in the world map + of course, static world map.
Untouched backgrounds? I thought one of the biggest complaints was that the individual background tiles were upscaled with no regard for how they would look like when they were actually tiled.

Is this a compilation or are they releasing them one by one? If it's the former and it's decent I might get it, otherwise forget it.

Can someone please PLEASE tell me why SE refuses to give FFVI the love that it fully deserves. Give this freaking game the "Remake" treatment. But I feel like the game is just too ambition for Square to want to tackle it... Oh well, here goes to another Pixel version -___________-

I know there is some hype for this, but they're releasing it on mobile. SE was great on iOS way back in the day, and then they decided that keeping their games updated to run on newer versions of iOS wasn't profitable. They just stopped updating their games and pulled most of them from the App Store, so of which were really cool. Their Android releases are just as hit and miss. This is most likely going to be a very low effort, disposable cash grab. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.

FF3 original was never released outside of Japan. Does this mean we will finally get the true FF3 and not a FF6 rebrand?

It was remade and released a few. times. I suppose the pixel remaster is closer to the original than the 3d version, but the PSP, iOS, and Android had re-releases too. I never really played it much.
