As announced in last week's Nintendo Direct, 48 new courses will be coming to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe through the end of 2023. Something not announced at the Direct, however, is that the courses will still be playable online, even if you haven't bought them. According to a page on Nintendo's website, the tracks from the first wave will be available in local and online private matches as long as one player owns the Booster Course Pass. Additionally, from March 22, four days after their release, the tracks will start appearing in random selection for all online matchmaking sessions. The page stipulates that players can only purchase the entire Booster Course Pass, and cannot purchase individual tracks, cups, or waves.

The eight courses coming on March 18 have also been revealed, and they are all tracks previously featured in the Mario Kart series.

Both games are still selling in hugr amounts so Rockstar and Nintendo have no need to bring out new versions in a hurry. Once sales of MK8 drop then Nintendo will announce MK9.

I 'm bit disappointed that they didn't took the chance of adding characters. Mario Kart Cell phone edition have many cool ones (but that game is awful).

But overall I'm very happy, as we will reach 96 tracks by 2023.

Oh, yeah, the last "real" Gran Turismo was released 9 years ago, but hopefully GT7 will be published this year.

GT Sporty was launched in 2017, and despite what many say, it is a "real" Gran Turismo

It's a substantial course update and if you just like to play online you don't even have to pay for it - I don't mind when games keep getting updated

Especially a racing game like this - truthfully it's not like coming out with a whole new Mario kart would be better, the games are all fundamentally the same racer

They're not even including new characters and karts, so you're still playing with the same "main" in new stages. I've played MK8D to death so I'm personally done with it.

If I'm coming back, it's for a true sequel, not another re-release.

8 is actually one of my least favorite entries (though slightly better than Wii). Those two forementioned games killed the series for me (Super, 64, GP, and DD are some of my favorite games of all time) If they delete the coin, reduce bananas by 99.99%, and make gaddang sure you can't lose your items unless you get booed or fire them off, maybe I'll come back to modern MK.

GT7 has literally gone gold, it's coming out this year without a doubt

I like Mario Kart but doesn´t deserve the attention it gets. On Wii they just added tilt controls, on Wii U nothing. And then re-released the game. It has become more and more similar since DS.
The series needs bold changes, at least in optional modes:
-Diddy Kong racing´s item system
-Item usage via Wii pointer (out of the question now) or Wii Sports Resort motions
-Co-Op on one cart like in Double Dash (but it becomes more interesting with said item usage)
I do not mean replacing the press of a button with a motion, I mean actual motion impacting the angle at which items are thrown etc (e.g. a frisbee).

And if none of that is possible, at least return to the way the carts handled in Super Mario Kart: way more interesting (add hills etc since the courses on the SNES were all flat).

This is better though? There are realistically no improvements to be made to Mario Kart which would require a new version of the game. Instead of buying a new game with less than 48 tracks for $60, we get to pay only $25 for 48.

From the comments people would rather have new game with lesser courses over existing game getting more courses.
Yes they could have added characters but this pack is also cheaper ($60 vs $25)

just a dam shame there in the mario kart tour style...mk8 tracks look amazing. but at least it's a bunch of new courses coming...hopefully they add a random select button cause dam is analysis paralysis going to hit hard

Not really.

GTA5 became a live service model through GTAO and as a result the need for a 6th entry was not rushed since they could just milk this out for as long as they are able to. A scenario that has worked in their favor.

As for MK8, like with most games from the Wii U era, it did not reach the projected adoption rates it had hoped it would. Mainly because most people did not have a Wii U or just did not care to get one. Once the Switch provided to be a far better and attractive system to the main market it was re-released on there with some added polish to revitalize the existing properties but with the projected adoption rates they had hoped for. They did this with a lot of their Wii U era games, but MK8 just happens to be the most popular of what came out of it. MK8 Really did not become a successful game until it was on the Switch, and if Nintnedo had the power to, they would probably prefer you forget it ever existing on the Wii U in the first place (if not forget the Wii U existed at all).

Do the new courses have the gravity aspect as well? Otherwise it would be at odds with the rest of the game; kind of like how the DLC characters in Smash WiiU/3DS don´t have custom moves.

Mario Kart 9 can't be announced yet, not with all this going on. It's selling like hot cakes.
Wouldn't feel good to be talking about MK9 so soon.
