Resident Evil 1 and Code Veronica fan remakes expected later this year

Capcom has been busy remaking its old Resident Evil games lately, with a remake for 2 releasing in 2019 and 3 releasing in 2020. Both of these games were originally tank control games that were updated to the over-the-shoulder style introduced in Resident Evil 4, which led many fans to hope the often forgotten Code Veronica would also be receiving a remake to the new control style, and possibly even a second remake of the original Resident Evil, which still only exists as a tank control game, though some leaks from a Resident Evil 4 voice actor might indicate that Capcom will be remaking that game next.

However, fans hoping for a modernization of Code Veronica and the original game can still look forward to two new fan remakes that are in development and will convert those games to the new over-the-shoulder gameplay, both expected to release in 2022. The webpage for the Code Veronica remake also mentions that it will be released in three chapters, though it's unclear whether all three chapters will release simultaneously, or if not, whether all three chapters will be released in 2022. That page also says it will feature the dodge mechanic from the Resident Evil 3 remake, and will have an additional release in the form of a "lite" version designed to run on lower-spec PCs. While the page for the Resident Evil remake doesn't include these details, since they are being made by the same teams in parallel, there's a good chance they will both have those features.

Instead of Capcom the company should me renamed as Remcom... (I know, it sounds very $#!tty).

BTW, how am I supposed to add a quote to an already existing comment of mine? Is this feature broken already?

They're definitely getting a C&D, cause it looks like they're using official assets, and Capcom won't have that.

The rain gives me GTA remake vibes.

Also, your friendly reminder that Alfred is a "crossdressing freak"!

Too bad that those are not actually from Capcom but I can't wait for Resident Evil 4 remake from Capcom. My favorite game is Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil Village because of Chris Redfield.

This feels definitely like C&D worthy. The assets look like they came out of the RE2&3 Remakes (and of course there’s no way a small group of fans made assets, animations and game mechanics THAT close to the official remakes)

Plus i see them having PayPal and Ko-fi donation links. That’s a sign by companies that they’re “earning a profit”. even though it’s not connected to the project, it’s still on the project’s page.

Also, they are using what? Resident Evil 2 Remake and mod it?
I don't think so, because the muzzle flash effect isn't very good. I think this is something done in Unity or Unreal Engine using official game assets.

If there's one thing Capcom will C&D you for, it's using official assets. That's the reason they shut down the RE4 fangame that was recreating the Hookman version. Also making money from it, but most people are smart enough not to do that. I think even Sega will shut you down if you do that. That's not even just C&D worthy, that's enough that a lawsuit can be justified.

C&D coming, those are assets taken straight from the RE2 and RE3 Remakes. Unless they don't include them and ask people to have those purchased in order to import the assets.

I'm guessing they're going to be mods for the games, rather than standalone distributions. They'd be committing copyright sudoku if they just started redistributing assets from the games.

This is something else. I am in sheer awe of the quality being produced from a fan-made project. And although this has all the makings of a Cease & Desist decree written all over it, I appreciate that at the very least, it allows Capcom to identify on what the core fanbase REALLY wants, a re-imagining of the classic tank-controlled games in the new generation.

Good job, creators!

I seem to remember back in the day Code Veronica always looking the best when compared to the other Res Evil games on console.
Not sure how they achieved that but there was a marked "next gen" look to it at the time that made it stand out from the others..

Probably because the other ones looked like N64 games with blocky low poly models.

It never made sense to me that they remade 2 and 3 before 1. there are a lot of people now who would have a very hard time catching up with the story of Resident evil, and while I get 2 is less accessible then 1, 1 aged super poorly
