I recently bought a HDD to play some Wii backups. However, when I try to run the loader, it freezes on the "Reinitializing Devices" screen, forcing me to pull the plug to turn off the Wii U (which is obviously risky). this happens specifically when the HDD for my Wii U games is also connected, so I need to disconnect this HDD to get past that screen so the loader detects successfully the HDD for my Wii Backups.

NOTES:
-I use a Y Cable for my Toshia Canvio Basics (1TB)
-The USB cable is connected to the back of the console
-The HDD is already formatted to FAT32 w/32k cluster
-The version of USBGX I'm using is v3.0 r1272

Recommend using d2x-v10-beta52 (which only supports one USB port) and plugging the data plug of the Y-cable into the top rear port. The data plug is usually the one closest to the HDD.
You can try with Loader IOS set to different settings: 58, 249 to see if it makes any difference.

Fixed the freezing by plugging the data plug to USB0, but hdd does not initialize by both IOSes, while "Waiting for HDD" appears in the case of IOS 249.

Tested both versions, I'm still unlucky with them.

I think I remember on some forums, that the external hard drive
Toshia Canvio Basics (1TB) had some problems (don't ask me which ones, I can't remember).

if you could test another brand of external hard drive that you have at home (see Western Digital)?

Where can you see your cable, if it's not defective?

Yup, I have a Seagate Expansion 1TB Portable External Hard Drive USB 3.0.
And nope, I bought the Y-cables some days ago and they are in a perfect condition.
Gonna transfer my Wii U games to the Toshiba HDD before I test with the Seagate one.

I have this same problem and never found a real solution. I simply disconnect my wiiu drive when trying to play wii games in usbloader gx... @blackb0x was working with me to try and debug and figure out what the issue is but we never got to the bottom of it.... I'm not sure if your issue is identical but it sounds just like my issue...

EDIT: I also saw this thread discussing a similar issue: ...batemp.net/threads/usb-loader-gx-not-working-wh...
Oh, well... guess I'm not alone.

I tested with the Seagate External Hard Drive I have, and got the thing to work just for a brief moment when I formatted it to NTFS 32K and started the ULGX in the modified version of 3.0 r1272 with IOS58.

I started a game (Wii Sports) to see if it actually worked; but instead of booting me into the game, I just went back to the Homebrew Channel and when I opened ULGX again, I got the same initialization error. It only worked for 5 minutes.

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I got this ps4 at launch and never updated since 9.0
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
You got a good chance of buying a used one and asking the seller how often they used or even ask for a Pic of fw and telling them not to update
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
Speaking of PLaystation. I see Evilnat put out a beta for PS3 CFW 4.91.2 on the 22nd.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Don't really see the point in updating it tbh
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea you right, I thought about updating my PS3 CFW to 4.91, but why really, everything plays fine now. I guess for people that have already updated past 4.9 it would be helpful.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Idk if online servers are still active that would be my only thought
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Thats true, personally I don't play it online at all, in fact, I deleted all wifi details on it once I installed CFW, so it won't connect and auto-update itself
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I play most games that are on both PS3/360 strickly on the 360, but PS3 exclusives are really only games I play on the PS3 (You know me, I'm more of a Xbox junkie)
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Ps3 really has no titles worth going online
