'Sniper Elite 5' to launch in 2022

Indie developer Rebellion has announced that the next installment to its Sniper Elite series is set to launch next year. Sniper Elite 5 will give players control over Karl Fairburne, an elite marksman, as he travels travel to France in 1944 to destroy Operation Kraken. A reveal trailer was aired to accompany the announcement:

As part of a covert US Rangers operation to weaken the Atlantikwall fortifications along the coast of Brittany, Karl makes contact with the French Resistance. Soon they uncover a secret Nazi project that threatens to end the war before the Allies can even invade Europe: Operation Kraken. It’s Karl’s mission to take out the high ranking Nazi officers and end Operation Kraken once and for all.

Based upon real world locations from France in 1944 the new game maps are the largest and most immersive in the franchise’s history with the new traversal system offering players an even greater sandbox of options when it comes to taking out their targets. You can even invite a friend to help you on your mission with enhanced co-operative gameplay options.

Key gameplay features are as follows:

Expansive Campaign – real-world locations have been captured using photogrammetry to recreate a living, immersive environment, and multiple infiltration and extraction points and kill list targets provide a whole new perspective on each mission. Take on the Nazi plot solo or work with a partner, with improved co-op mechanics allowing you to share ammo and items, give orders and heal each other.

Advanced gunplay physics and traversal – use ziplines, slide down slopes and shimmy along ledges to reach the perfect vantage point, or to sneak past a sharp-eyed lookout. Factor in rifle stock and barrel options along with gravity, wind and heart rate while you line up your sights on the target.

High calibre customisation – use workbenches to customise and upgrade virtually every aspect of your weapon. Change scopes, stocks, barrels, magazines and more. Rifles, secondary weapons, and pistols all have a huge variety of options. On top of that you can select the ammo to suit your target, from armour-piercing right down to non-lethal.

Invasion mode drop-in PVP – you can invade another player’s Campaign as an Axis sniper and engage in a deadly game of cat and mouse, providing a new dimension to the challenge as you stalk your prey. Alternatively, as Karl you can call for assistance and have a second sniper drop in to help you out of a tricky situation.

Tense adversarial multiplayer – customise your character and loadout and earn XP, medals and ribbons as you take on intensely competitive 16 player battles that will really test your sharpshooting skills. If co-op’s more your style, you can team up with up to 3 other players against waves of enemies in Survival mode.

Enhanced kill cam – more realistic and grisly than ever, the trademark X-ray kill cam returns, showing you the true destructive power of each shot. Bones deflect bullets unpredictably, ripping a new path through enemy bodies. SMGs and pistols can also trigger kill cams, including multiple shots in dramatic slow motion.

Sniper Elite 5 will release on Xbox Game Pass, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 4 & 5, Epic, Steam and Windows Store in 2022 with more news to come in the run up to release.

Indie? WTF?

Rebellion are so lazy. ANOTHER Sniper Elite game. These people OWN Judge Dredd. They own Slaine and Rogue Trooper and Strontium Dog and ABC Warriors. And they do nothing with these properties.

But oh boy oh JOY ANOTHER WW2 GAME WHERE YOU CAN SHOOT NAZIS HOW EXCITING! What a brave departure from their other series. You know, the one set in WW2 where you can shoot ZOMBIE nazis?

It's gotten boring to only have games about killing Nazis 'cause everyone does it.

There were the Bolsheviks, Nanking, IRA, ETA, etc. These developers need to get creative about having *different* villains, for Christ sake.

You dont even get to fight the japanese in WW2 games becuase it would be "problematic" to fetishize and glorify brutally massacring asians like how its acceptable to do to the germans.

That reminds me of Resident Evil 5.

Some found it "racist" to kill the infected which were African, but on Resident Evil 4 they had no problems killing the infected whom were European. That's some double standard bs right there.

I'm glad the cast spoke up about this nonsense.

The Sniper Elite series has always felt to me like a "value brand" version of Metal Gear. Sniper Elite 4 was pretty much just a slimmed down MGSV, but with Nazis. The only stand out feature is the gimmicky death animations, which are cool as hell, but they get old after a while.

They're fun games, but not exactly something that gets me excited. They're just too uninteresting/unremarkable IMO. Maybe if I see it on sale I'll pick it up.

Yipee, I love these Sniper Elite games, this is the most played game I have played on the Switch and have completed it + all the DLC for Sniper Elite 4 about 5 times now - even though I have over a thousand odd games for that system. Probably on PS3 and 360 I have completed these a few times as well. This news might make me finally buy a PS4 or 5 so I can play it.

Not for people who enjoy them. No one is gonna force you to play if you don't want to lol.
That's fine and they know their target audience, but the enemy is always the same. It feels uncreative and unoriginal.

I personally like games with a good story and even better if it's original and unique.

For example, the Call of Duty franchise might feel "always the same shit," but MW1 was incredible and MW2 was great too. These games had variety and originality.

I agree with you, I just think these games are for a specific audience and they can't get enough of them.
