Romhacker backports Grand Underground from Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl into Pokemon Platinum

When it comes to major differences between the original release of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl and their remakes, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, they're few and far between. One such difference is the Grand Underground, a new feature that adds areas full of wild Pokemon that you can catch while underground. However, someone has taken that new addition and brought it back in time to the old games; a Japanese romhacker by the name of Tsukimi7270 posted a video to Twitter showing off their version of the Grand Underground, in Pokemon Platinum. Much like the remakes, in the romhack, there's a lava area underground, and wild encounters with a Magcargo, Houndoom, and even Groudon. The user also has a YouTube channel, full of all sorts of other rom edits to Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum that showcase newer-gen Pokemon added, odd boundary breaks, and custom encounters.

Can someone do vice-versa? Import Platinum content into these half-assed remakes?
No. Not yet, at least.

Maps cannot be modified, Overworld scripts can also not be modified.
Here's hoping it's a matter of time before they become possible though.

For whatever it's worth, anything involving data tables can be edited with relative ease. Things like base stats, learnsets, wild encounters and such.

no literally how is this like an available romhack or what
Yes, it is a ROM Hack.
No, it's not available. Not yet, at least.

In other news nintendo has filed a lawsuit against Tsukimi7270. A c&d was served and being Japanese he maybe charged with other things (cheating, cheating, cheat...bla bla bla.) Im sure a lot of shit will get thrown. Awesome work though but im afraid it may never reach daylight. Should of waited to announce it till it was ready to release.

If they're smart that username won't he tied to any account with personal detail, and they'd upload on an anonymous site with a VPN. Of course that wouldn't mean they can't be caught but it's way less likely.

No, he did not port the Grand Underground. He just made a video about this idea.

VPNs are not synonymous with privacy. They are nothing more than snake oil.
They are only useful to bypass regional locking, not to maintain privacy.

Do you think any VPN vendors wouldn't crap out your connections details if served with a legal request?

You can always be found.
Or do you think that those disgusting people that look for children to pork with don't use such things?

Do what I do. Hate Christmas and the disgusting materialism it now signifies. Fight against cooties. Scratch if you need to.

Decent privacy practices on the user's end and plus a VPN should suffice for warez and fan games. A lot of people haven't received DMCA notices while using VPNs. Of course if you're a creep trying to abuse kids you'll be caught.

That is exactly my point. For game and software piracy and music streaming you can be fine, but if a real law enforcement agency like the FBI or any other national agency knocks, you are meeting a lot of people that will happily give you yet unknown pleasures in jail.

A law firm will be promptly ignored and their emails will be used as wipers after a dump.

But we have a lawyer somewhere around these parts.

If this is actually a rom hack and not just a PoC video, mark me impressed...especially with the porting of HGSS's Kaiju Trio theme.

(which if you don't know, setting alternate music for a battle let alone porting a track that isn't even from the same game is actually one of the biggest hurdles in pokemon hacking. few have done it without breaking the game in some unknown and unanticipated way, so i'm leaning towards it being a video edit/PoC)

Either way lord have mercy on them, they're messing with the beast while being it it's belly, those nintendo ninjas will go full force if this gets too much traction

That'd be something right? I too really expected more of the remakes, especially considering that the events for Darkrai & Shaymin aren't even properly implemented, and that the Hall of Origins & the Azure Flute are both ENTIRELY lacking from the game. The Distortion World not being there is also such a huge miss in my opinion, especially considering that on the Switch with the more modern graphics and engine and the likes, they could've done SO MUCH MORE with it than on the NDS. Yet, they only chose to make a tribute to it with a Shadow Giratina you can't even catch. I myself am quite disappointed of how lackluster these remakes felt, because the "Grand Underground" for sure is not enough to make up for the lack of all the next-gen/post 4th-gen Pokémon and other features people expected. I mean, the GTS (Yes, GTS, not GWS as they now suddenly call it), is also not even implemented. At the VERY LEAST the game could've been complete upon release. Yet they have decided to time-gate this and other features, which is beyond disgusting.

If they don't implement new stuff/DLC's that add additional features, then I don't see these remakes surviving for all that long really. Sword & Shield survived for long because they bothered adding new content.
Also, that being said however, I will say what we all are thinking and all want: Multi-region Pokémon games.
Is that so hard to make Ninty, is it? You've done it a loooong time ago with Kanto & Johto (although it never felt right because switching to either side always felt like things were half-assed and they just felt off, like it never felt like it was a part of the game to go over to Kanto from the Johto games because it wasn't implemented properly), so why is it just so hard to make one game with all regions (or at least, let's say all Japanese regions, like putting together Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh)?

I don't understand Ninty and Pokémon games anymore. They don't really contain anything other than what we've already had 10-15 years ago, just rehashed.

EDIT: Wanted to add that, in case anyone points out that anything beyond the 4th-gen wasn't added because it didn't exist yet around that time, it is only really a convenience argument for Ninty/The Pokémon Franchise and nothing more. There are already items and other stuff in the games that didn't exist around the 4th-gen, like all of the Candies/Mints, and the Beastball, and other newer items. On top of that, it also had already been done, namely in Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, so really if anyone pulls this excuse then you're just a Ninty/Pokémon Company chill. I've been longer with Ninty & The Pokémon Franchise than many here even have existed, and yet I am quite disappointed at the lack of development and the missed opportunities this franchise has so often come to. It all boils down to what basically ALL game developers & publishers these days are guilty of: Make the most money with the least amount of effort.
Nintendo arguably has better quality control than let's say Activision, EA, Ubisoft, you name it. But when it comes to what their fan bases really want, Nintendo has almost ALWAYS been deaf to it. The only time I can remember something cool having been done to the Pokémon franchise, was with Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, and with Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon. All others were just small increments to their previous versions that didn't add anything major or any cool features/Pokémon/worlds that blew you out of your socks. I mean admit it yourself, when was the last time you got blown away by a Pokémon game for all the really cool, new stuff, lore and Pokémon they added? It's been a while, hasn't it?
So yeah, the "ThEy hAvEn't dOnE It bEcAuSe oF LoRe/cAnOn rEaSoNs!" argument is incredibly absurd and ridiculous, as all it does is deliver Nintendo another excuse for their low efforts on trying to actually do something more than just meeting the absolute base & bare minimum expectations.

As far as I know, this is not a rom hack that will be released at some point, but rather some custom modifications that Tsukimi (that's the hacker's name, btw) like to do as mere concepts.
So, while the term romhacker is correct, showcasing this as news that already are hyping people into thinking a rom hack is on the works and will be released eventually, is not. Careful there.
