Is there a way (by hacking) to be able to have the same profile on multiple 3DS/2DS?

Hi there,

So after all these years, I managed to get a good deal on a mint launch Crimson Red 2DS. I recently hacked my 3DS XL and I would like to be able to swap my SD card back & forth from my 3DS XL and 2DS. I know that Nintendo doesn't allow you have have the same Nintendo account on multiple 3DS/2DS systems, but when softmodded, if there a way around this?

Cheers

You can't. Though you can backup your games/gamesaves and use them on both systems,if both have CFW of course.

What if you backup your NAND, Transfer the account to the other, and then restore your NAND? That should give you the account on both consoles.

So the 3DS and NDS save data are not tied to the user?
No. 3ds gamesaves can be backed up by homebrew software Checkpoint or JKSM, you can restore them any time you want on any system that has CFW.
For DS games, if you use TWilightmenu, saves are on saves folder inside the roms folder.

Cool, thank you.

If you transfer the NAND like that, you will also transfer the NNID. Nintendo's servers do not expect the same NNID to be on two different consoles and at the very least you will have problems going online and probably connecting to the eShop. Bans for using CFW are largely unheard of, but that would certainly be a good way to start looking for one.

There have been suggestions in the past of copying the encryption key from one console to another, but that can corrupt the Friends list. I'm kind of hazy on the details.

In any case, no matter what you do, you can't automatically overcome Anti Savegame Restore, although that is only used by a couple of games – mostly Pokemon and Animal Crossing. For games like that you will always have to back up the save game with Checkpoint and then restore it again in order to get it to work, which is what you would have to do even if you didn't mess with "profiles" and encryption keys.

I deleted all of my CIA files after the installation. Will I need to redump my games in my 2DS or can I simply use the installation folder of my current SD card and copy it to my new SD card?

No, you can't use the "Nintendo 3DS folder" in an another system other than itself. You should either re-dump your games or get them from the internet..

Guess I'll redump them since it's less of a pain and keep the CIA files this time.

Cheers

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
