yeah but there is such a thing as an anonymous release ,how do you think scene release groups work
Atmosphère is currently an open source project developed on GitHub and receiving contributions from people all over the world. Because it's legal, it can be developed out in the open, which makes it safer, more frequently updated and overall better. Ditto hekate and several other homebrew projects. If it were anonymous and handled in secret, it would lose out on all these advantages - or rather, we, the users, would lose out. It may come with a little bit of fame whoring and drama (*cough* Tinfoil blocking hekate *cough*) but it overall leads to better software.

With scene releases, your crack has to be closed-source to keep the game developers from studying your code to improve their anti-piracy measures and make your life harder. A CFW only comes into play after the exploit has been triggered so there's no such risk.

true but someone could release a patch anonymously that adds the XCI header for loading XCI

Back in 2019, when SX OS has just launched, SX OS had a lot of things that were "worth it", I believe. But at this moment, Atmosphere exists and from what I know, SX OS can brick your console because it has brickcode implemented in it (did xecuter make gateway that their soft is potentially dangerous?), SX OS is paid and SX OS has little to none advantages over atmosphere?

Title should be "What is the point of launching another Pissing contest".

boy I really miss those days when hacks were released anonymously

before all this fame whoring

I don't get why people feel the need to use their real names anyways
Agreed, people are dumb now. Imagine using your birth name anywhere online. :rofl2:

They could, and Nintendo could follow the breadcrumbs and have their lawyers knocking on their door. Maybe they wouldn't. We all know how there are several sources of .nsp and .xci files hiding in plain sight one Google search away. But it is a risk.

It's all about the size of their E-Penis! Nothing more and nothing less.

I say that SX OS definetly served its purpose but niw that Team Xecuter got busted for it, I honestly don't see the point in people hanging onto it and not switching to Atmosphere ultimately. Its not like Xecuter will be updating SX OS anymore so new games won't be compatible with it anyways. I mean at best you could dual boot SX OS to play youre older games and use Atmosphere for all your homebrew. That would probably be the best option for those still hanging on to SX OS and don't want to lose access to their pre-existing backup library.

As for Atmosphere not supporting backup loading. I don't really blame the authors and contributors considering what happened to TX. Sure someone could release an unofficial patch or version that supports XCI etc but if they do they better make damn sure to cover their tracks well.

If your work is legal then it looks good on your resume. If your work is in a legal grey area or illegal then you should post it anonymously.

It's plug and play, one file, one serial and you are done, when they were updates you updated one file and voila...

Just curious besides not having xci loading, doesn’t atmosphere already support some time of usb loading from the dock, just asking because all these emulators and games for them eventually if not already add up to a good amount of memory.

and exploitation in a despotic communist dictatorship is the "moral" thing to do

So... I guess you were talking about Ninty then. Yet you have obviously, at the very least, purchased a Switch.

The switch, like all other Nintendo consoles, is also assembled in Japan-based Hosiden. They simply can't produce the volume that Foxconn does, so both are used. It's not like they go out of their way to find someone who uses child labor...

It's an XCI loader, parading around as a CFW. But everyone that knows how to implement the XCI loader into Atmosphere is too pussy to do it, and/or doesn't support piracy because morals or some shit. (It's always something stupid. Like the need to add sigpatches in Atmosphere, when they should already be there to begin with.)
nxhhd aims to add it to atmosphere but development is slow atm.

The lack of piracy in Atmosphere protects them from Nintendo's ninjas.

Uh, no. The lack of any cash flow is what protects Atmosphere from a Ninja attack. The only time the US govt. gets involved is when profit is involved and Uncle Sam doesn't get his cut. China is also cracking down on things for the same reason. People migrated from SX to Atmos to continue playing pirated games with higher firmware requirements anyway. Anyone that thinks "lack of piracy" is an Atmosphere feature is either naive or willingly lying to themselves.

When people say that, they mean that Atmosphère itself does not contain anything that could be considered piracy. It allows you to install homebrew apps that in turn enable piracy, but Windows allows you to install cracked games and you don't see Ubisoft or Activision suing Microsoft over Fitgirl repacks because Windows itself does not contain any stolen IP. Of course, the cash flow thing is what really matters legally speaking, but the people who say Atmosphère is clean aren't wrong either.

At the end of the day Nintendo doesn't want any unlicensed software running on their locked console and that would include Atmosphere as a replacement firmware. As said before the only saving grace is that it's not paid software, all the moral stuff people come up with is irrelevant from any legal point of view.

Easy way to keep Nintendo away? Stay non-profit. It takes cash flow to prove damages. If there was a Patreon for Atmosphere Nintendo would be all over it, so far SciresM has played it smart by not even taking donations.
