A new Dragon Ball game has been announced, features asymmetrical survival multiplayer

Dragon Ball games tend to follow the same trend: you play as Goku, usually following the events of his victory against Piccolo, and then the Dragon Ball Z story is retold for the millionth time, sometimes ending at the Cell Saga, other times making it all the way to the end of DBZ. That's exactly what the previous game, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot did. This time around, however, Bandai Namco is going in a completely new direction. Dragon Ball: The Breakers is a new game that bucks the trend of all other DBZ games, as it's going to be a co-op survival game with asymmetrical multiplayer.

In The Breakers. you'll be able to either control a team of seven human characters trying to survive, or you can play as iconic DBZ villains like Cell or Freiza, who are trying to wipe out the opposing team. The human team will have to cooperate in order to find powerups, weapons, and supplies in order to escape without being killed. Dragon Ball: The Breakers is set for release on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and the Nintendo Switch for sometime next year.

Basically EVOLVE but... 1v7 instead. Not sure if any game's tried something like it since.
This is like telling someone to "Bing it", I don't think anyone thinks about Evolve when talking about asymmetrical multiplayer games.

Or at all, really.

Game looks alright, but Bandainamco will probably sell it for $60 plus DLC.

problem with this type of games is after the first couple months you will hardly find 8 players to fill a match lol, so yeah im gonna pass on it.

That was unexpected. Take your power fantasy fighting anime and make it a horror game of sorts, something that never really featured in the series either from what I recall. Going to have to assume this was a "what is popular with the kids" manglement/consumer research decision for this one.

RPG, rhythm game, another fighting game but a different style, platformer, spinoff story perhaps, visual novel... all of those I would have put way ahead of horror game. Maybe you have a mission like this in a game (got to get your low power type back with key info/alive/... to your actual fighters) but a whole game?

It's incredibly difficult to balance this type of game, usually they're skewed heavily toward the solo player early on and then skewed heavily toward the team players once prevailing strategies emerge. Hopefully the plan is to price this around $30 at launch, because asymmetrical multiplayer-only titles end up on sale for $10 sooner rather than later anyway.

In the original Dragonball the King Piccolo arc gave horror vibes.

The early parts of the Cell saga were straight up horror themed (a monster absorbing entire cities and the Z fighters being powerless to stop him while investigating his origins).

Future Trunks' timeline was also horror themed and that theme was amplified to a huge extent in the Goku Black arc.

That all said... What a weird concept for a DBZ game. I can dig it though.
