New patch notes explain what will be in the Pokemon Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl day 1 update

pokemon-brilliant-diamond-shining-pearl-battle.jpg

As previously noted in yesterday's thread, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shinning Pearl are due to get a day 1 update, and a major one, at that. After remaining a mystery for a short while, the official Pokemon website has detailed what exactly version 1.1.0 will bring to the table. It'll be adding online and local multiplayer for the Super Contests, Union Room, and Grand Underground, post-game content including the new Ramanas Park, and the addition of cutscenes, which means there will now be a title screen and credits animation.

The 1.1.0 patch will be available tomorrow, on November 11th, prior to the release of the game, meaning those with early copies may still be able to experience the full game before the November 19th launch date.

That won't be the only content update, either. There will be yet another patch slated sometime after the launch of the game as well. The only things we currently know about that update is that it will allow for more than two players at once in the Union Room, access to the GWS, and a Pokemon Center Colosseum.

  • Addition of Grand Underground, Super Contest Show, Union Room and Mystery Gift communication features
You will be able to enjoy local and online communication features of the Grand Underground, Super Contest Show and Union Room. Additionally, you will also become able to receive gifts using the Mystery Gift feature.
  • Addition of content after entering the Hall of Fame
Some content that becomes playable after entering the Hall of Fame, including Ramanas Park, will be added in the update.
    • Note: even if you have already entered the Hall of Fame before downloading the update, downloading it will allow you to play the additional content.
  • Addition of some in-game cutscenes and animations
Some in-game cutscenes and animations will be added in the update, including the game’s ending cutscene and the title screen animation that is played when opening the software.
    • Note: you can view the title screen animation by starting up the software with existing save data and with the update installed. Even if you have already entered the Hall of Fame before the update is installed, you can view the ending cutscene by entering the Hall of Fame again afterwards.
  • Other adjustments and corrections were made to improve the gameplay experience.
  • Regarding a planned update after release
On the release date for the software, up to two players will be able to interact in local and online play in the Union Room, and you will be able to select the “Battle”, “Trade” and “Mix Records” functions. In an update that will be made available after the software releases, the maximum number of players will be increased, and the “Greeting” and “Capsule Decoration” functions will become available.
Additionally, trading using the GWS in Jubilife City and the use of the Colosseum feature inside Pokémon Centers will also be added in a post-release update.

What do they mean they'll "add" the grand underground. Its already in the base game now, pre-patch.
EDIT: Nevermind. I misread. It adds the grand underground *communication features.* I'm stupid.

It'd probably be terrible to be one of the people who still doesn't have usably fast internet nowadays. I used to not have internet at my mom's house until around 2012, and the internet at my dad's place was DSL until about 2 years ago. Even back then using the xbox 360 without internet was torture, and downloading updates at my dad's house took an eternity for the few games that needed them like Black Ops II. I couldn't imagine how annoying ultra-important patches like these are for kids in poor families or rural areas that just want a playable version of a 15 year-old pokemon game that they got as a birthday gift.

Sun and moon was the beginning of the era of bad and cheaply made pokemon games... It gets worse every year...

Actually X and Y is way worse . I have the games and could NOT continue past a few hours of playing due to how terrible the game was. At least I had fun with Sun and Moon. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon was... overpriced crap, instead of making just a third game they made two and removed what made Sun and Moon unique.

I do not forget that it's just that a lot of the stuff you mentioned isn't content, it's just mechanics. When I think of stuff that makes Pokemon Silver/Gold/Crystal for me I don't think "Hell yeah, Shiny Pokemon!" I think "Mt. Silver, the Radio feature, The Music, exploring Kanto after the time skip, exploring caves with Legendaries at the end, Team Rocket's plot to find Giovanni". Again Gold/Silver/Crystal are great games i just don't think that's where the franchise peaked (and a lot of its success is just thanks to Iwata being a chad instead of Gamefreaks efforts).

Pokemon B2W2 also had a Final Boss with a fight against N who has a full level 80 Team if you're on challenge mode. He even had a different team based on Seasons so re-fighting him was always a fresh challenge (well, at least the first 4 times).
that is the whole point of gen V it didnt added anything, it just used what existed, no new stuff that would add to the franchise going forward.

Man, I hate when developers release a day one patch. Just make sure your game is polished and stable without the need of a patching.

I still remember the nightmare that was DOOM on Switch. It didn't let me play until it updated, yes, if it was offline I could play the single player just fine, but soonet or later I'd have to deal with that bs.

I don't have a Switch anymore, anyway.

I thought nintendo used to strive to ensure its games were top quality, one of its leading titles requiring a day one patch.

Now it begs the question, was it lazyness or was it to cust cart costs and pass the expense onto the customer having to digitally download the content rather than supply it on the game cart itself.

- Gen 5 added additional Difficulties
- Seasons
- Unova Link
- Hidden Abilities
- Low HP Soundtrack and Final Pokemon during Gym leader fight soundtrack (later of which didn't return till Sword & Shield)
- Animated Pokemon battles (and the battle system in general is fast and snappy, lets not forget how godawful slow Gen 4 was with High HP Pokemon)
- Achievements (which actually returned in Gen 6 but GF made sure they're as pointless and invisible as possible).
You're mixing up Innovation with Quality.

like i said those are things that didnt went into core pokemon games going foward

the seasons thing was dropped

dificulty option dropped

unova link is just some comunication between the same game and its own sequel so it isnt even a thing that could be brought foward

hidden abilities sure i will give you that but again it was just adding an extra ability to pokemons so its not like an innovation when abilities were already a thing imo.

there was low hp music in battles since even gen 1 its just a new music here...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLsHg65zGIk

We had animated pokemon battles on pokemon stadium/stadium2/colosseum and XD way before genV so it didnt stricked me as anything new even back then.

achievements arent much to celebrate since most games dont have them and they are preety pointless i still remenber catching every pokemon to get like a card or a star or whatever on the trainer card... preety dman pointless.

of everything you said imo the only thing that was added and was used in games following that was hidden abilities.

for me its
gen1 core everything nuff said
gen2 lots of new mechanics and stuff that would cemment the core formula to come
gen3 abilities and format of the most used story (legendary cover pokemon being the main plot started here).
gen4 well the physical/special split and online was its bigger s contribution not much else.
genV was sort of an reboot with hidden abilities and some stuff that was never implemented in most games.
genVI mega evolution
gen VII tryed to take away from gym formula and do some changes and the zmoves that were never used on following gen so yeah this was kinda like genV where most of it died here
gen VIII gigantamax and tryed to make its first 3rd person open-world with camera control stuff with pokemons ineractable directly instead of random grass encounter, preety sure only the pokemon encounter mechanic will follow through, gigantamax and dens and online dens stuff will probably not be sued on the next main game (Arceus)

well... that's unnerving. I guess that Christmas season deadline was *strict*. Not really sure I'm going to play this one at all. Think I'll stream soul silver instead.

oh man, I forgot the meme changed from chad meaning "insufferably cocky idiot-douche" to "peak performance". confused for a second there. just like language, i guess stuff like that changes through mistellings, misunderstanding, and intentional manipulation. language is weird.

I can confirm that the music indeed changed after the update. OH THANK GOD!
yeah thought the trainer battle was like nails on a chalkboard in 1.0 it was driving me insane I can just see comparison videos on YT (til copyright strikes fly) like nintendo wanted to forget 1.0/Beta happened, though it doesn't take Cyberpunk 2k77's spot as worst release (maybe for a Pokemon game it does)
