Figure out dual boot SXOS & Atmosphere or delete and just use Atmosphere?

Not used switch in ages and have SXOS setup with emunand and still on 10.1.0.

Obvs can't play latest games so wanted to consider dual booking to SXOS and Atmosphere but seems a proper complicated minefield of issues.

Should I persevere, or just remove the existing emunand and then just set the switch up again from scratch with Atmosphere? Certainly seems the simplest option.

Have a ton of xci's but presume I can just reinstall them on a new SD with NS USB loader from the PC?

Which way should I go?

Also, exFAT or FAT32 if I go with an SD based NAND on a 512gb card? :)

Having both SXOS and Atmosphere on the same SD is not any more complicated than having one, if you understand the basic concepts of RCM, auto RCM, payload, CFW, etc... They use files/folder different from each other, so once you boot into one, you're not clobbering the other. But if you want to save the SD card space of having both, and you have no emotional attachment to SXOS, just go with Atmosphere; that's what I did. Most installer will support XCIs, and use FAT32 if you want less problems. I personally have never had issues with exFat after using it for a few years, but recently switched to FAT32 just to be on the safe side. I would just install Hekate/Atmosphere on the same SD card you have now, and when you're comfortable with Atmosphere, and have no further use for SXOS, remove the files/folders related to SXOS. I would create a different emuNand for Atmosphere, as you probably want to update that firmware to the latest version.

Thanks.

So I currently have emunand with SXOS on the switch internal memory, would you recommend keeping that as is and just installing Atmosphere on an SSD and creating a new emunand on the SD card? (fat32, as suggested).

I do like the functionality of SXOS for everything I have currently, just wanted to use Atmosphere to run the latest games.

if Atmosphere can do everything that SXOS can do, then I'm not averse to removing the current emunand and starting again. Is that best? Or just migrate the emunand over to atmosphere?

Still a little confused and the threads I've read usually end up with multiple posts contradicting each other which only confuses me further.

Just not sure what's best, just after an easy life tbh that can run existing xci's (albeit now installed to SD with atmosphere) AND run any new games i get hold of. I've not got many significant game saves to keep so not worrying about any of those.

Best to...

a) leave the switch emunand with sxos as it is now, and install a new emunand (on SD card?) with atmosphere

or

b) migrate the emunand to atmosphere and then just use an old sxos sd card to boot into SXOS if needed

or just keep it simple and
c) migrate sxos emunand to atmosphere, and embrace the future ;)

Thanks again!

Question: if you were to migrate to Atmosphere from SXOS, what happens to the games that were installed by using SX Installer? Would they be able to run & play via Atmosphere/Hekate or do I need to be in SXOS in order to play?
Total newbie when it comes to Atmosphere & Hekate. Thanks in-advance!

Just export your saves when in SXOS, then when Atmosphere is installed, re-install the games, and import the saves, and you're right back where you were.

I vote to just use atm. That's what I did
Thanks, what's simplest way to do that? Migrate the existing emunand to atmosphere and then just boot into atmosphere?

or is it better to restore the emunand back to normal vanilla sysnand (as per the original unhacked switch), and then install atmosphere from scratch?

I obvs want to be able to install more games than the internal 32gb mem can hold, and as atmosphere can't handle .xci's I presume the enumand for atmosphere is held on the SD card, and I install the xci's (vis the pc) games to there?

Thanks (again!)

OK, lots more reading and I think a litle more understanding....

Leaning to just moving to Atmosphere outright tbh.

SO, is it ok to just migrate the existing internal console emunand to atmosphere, and then just install all the games (via usb from pc) to the new FAT32 SD card? They are all xci but I presume that Awoo etc will install them ok?

ANy pitfalls to watch out for? Thx.

If you want to use your USB drive then you have no choice but to use SX OS. You can do so with a small emunand. I'm using an 8 gigabyte one. I even wrote a tutorial on how to make dual hidden partition emunand on the same SD card. You can shrink the SX OS emunand to whatever size you want.
Tutorial is in the section here on the temp

You'll probably have to reinstall some games if you decide to migrate your existing emunand to atmosphere. Anything installed using the built-in SX OS installer will probably not work in atmosphere. You can try it. To use your SX OS emunand in atmosphere all you have to do is install atmosphere and edit the ini file in the emummc directory

Dual Boot I say, remember atmosphere does not support external hdd, and thus cannot install games to an ext hdd.

With atmo only you will be stuck with a crummy 128 to 256gb sd storage, or fork out the big bucks to buy a measly 512gb sd.

I keeped my SXOS EmuNAND and moved to AMS.
It would be possible to use SX with the SYSnand, but to be honest i dont think so anymore that there will something happen in the Future, also when i really loved the easy setup of SX.

Thanks for the help!

When I said USB I meant just installing things over USB from the PC, with NS-USBloader. Does that make a difference? That works with Atmosphere no?

I guess my main reservation of trying to run SX and Atmos is the countless threads showing difficulties, particualrly with the two different firmwares for each one (ie latest for Atmos to run the latest games) and stuck on 1.01 for SX.yes I'd LOVE to be able to dual boot but concerned this is above my skill level! Thanks again

Let me know how it turns out. Happy to help.
Thanks, stumbled at first hurdle as NxNandManager says "input drive is not a valid NX storage" when opening the SD card with emunand copied to it from hekate on the switch. EmuTools sees it ok, but Nxmanager doesn't . Grr. Google and more contradiction/confusion here we come lol. Guess a simple "copy/paste" of the sxos folder on the SD card won't suffice?

Alternatively, can I just use EmuTools to firstly copy the SXOS hidden partition from my SD card to my pc, then change type on SD from SXOS hidden > Atmosphere Hidden, and then just restore SXOS file to SXOS Hidden back onto the SD? or does it have to be NXNandManager (in which case I'm stumped!)

If you don't want to keep USB drive. And you want to change everything from SX OS to atmosphere. Look up how to migrate to atmosphere to atmosphere. it can all be done in hekate. You used to be able to use the same emunand in both. The problem is SX OS can only go up to 11.0..

If you want to keep USB functionality. Just follow the guide
