Edit : SOLVED

I was able to find the NAND file from December of 2010, LOL. Also this Wii had BootMii installed to boot2. Thanks to XFlak for guiding me.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OLD :

As titled.

Please help.

My Wii is bricked.
I think I have the NAND for it.
I do not think the Wii has Preloader or Bootmii installed.

What can I do ?

(the story) It was a Wii that was softmodded like 8~10 years ago. I fired it up the other day and played GameCube copies successfully, it was a hoot, I tried to load "Metroid Other M" (Wii ISO) off of a USB drive and the Wii bricked. I think that Wii was at 4.1.

I tried to follow a tutorial but could only boot into this screen. It makes me think that this Wii doesn't have Priiloader or Bootmii installed.

http://static.hackmii.com/bootmii_sd_files.zip

Save the contents of this zip this to your sd card, so it looks like sd:/bootmii and see if the bootmii menu loads up

And /or to check if priiloader is installed, hold down the reset button on the console as you are turning it on

Edit: what exactly did you do to get to that cboot2 screen?

Thanks XFlak, I'll give it a try when I'm back home.

As for what I did I to get that screen, I had followed a video with files for the SD card ... Let's see ... I think it was the following video. At the time I didn't think I had the NAND files, but now I think I may have the NAND files ...

Hi Xflak, thanks for working with me. I put those files on the SD card and booted the Wii. It showed the attached image. That seems hopeful :)

I tried also to boot the Wii while holding reset, that did not work. Just a black screen. Likewise booting the Wii without an SD card results in just a black screen.

Edit : OK the plot thickens, LOL.

that's a good sign. I haven't flashed a wii backup nand, but I've backed one up. iirc, you may have bad blocks, but don't worry (this is normal). the bad blocks will be remapped, probably at the end of the nand. that's usually what's done with nand dumps on other consoles.

btw, a bad nand block is shown in black when it backs up/restores. it will go over them again remapping them, so it should show all green iirc once the process is done.

Thanks for chiming in "Godreborn".

I actually have a few old NAND files. Is it possible to get the console ID of a NAND file ? I was able to see this Wii's console ID from BootMii.

Edit :

Hey, the 2nd NAND file I tried appears to be working :)

Edit, hey good times !

probably, but I don't know how. I know that a syscheck will have the console id, if you have one. not sure where it's located at in the nand.

Apparently BootMii Recovery acts different when you supply it with the correct NAND, so if you only have a few to test, that's good. If you use the wrong NAND it says "Konami" LOL.

Even without a nand backup we can fix this wii. In all likelihood what I'm about to go into won't be necessary as the old nand once restored will likely resolve the issue, so I won't go into too much detail.

You can go to the SD menu on bootmii and launch bootmini.elf (I.e. The hackmii installer) and use this to install the latest hbc, then launch into it. From there we run syscheck or other tools to see what the underlying issue is (perhaps an upgrade to a region changed originally Korean wii?) and resolve it. Alternatively we could dump the wii's keys and create a new virgin nand backup for the console using ohneschwanzenegger, then restore that.

Anyway, do me a favour, can you check the serial number on the console to see if it is/was Korean?

Once this is resolved, definitely post a syscheck and/or use Modmii's main wizard or syscheck updater wizard to make sure ALL your softmods are up to date

How do I edit the title of this thread to "Solved" ? I guess this Wii did have BootMii installed to boot2. Surely that helped. I found a NAND backup from ‎December ‎15, ‎2010, LOL. I used the BootMii that XFlak shared and it all worked out. Thanks all.

I haven't used modmii. my wii was hacked a very long time ago. it has a wiikey version 1 inside, then I softmodded it with the twilight hack to get the homebrew channel on it.
