Generally you will either want to package each ROM as a .cia using New Super Ultimate Injector
Why would you want that? there's no advantages over gbarunner2, it takes space on the home menu (which has a 300 limit) for no reason, with gbarunner2 you just open the rom files, no need to package stuff.
or otherwise open_gba_firm.
I use it for the games that have issues on gbarunner2, but otherwise... the lack of widescreen, having to reboot to select a different game, the "meh" upscaling, not being able to use lower screen... it's not ideal either imo

But it's only a few games. I literally only use open_agb_firm for mother3 and the digimon fighting game. All the big titles are covered by gbarunner2.
It's not a soccer match tho, we can have and use either for whatever needs we have. I prefer to keep my roms outside my home screen so NSUI is not an option for me, that doesn't mean is bad in any way tho.

There's not really need for a guide. Each emulator has it's thread with whatever instructions are needed, but it mostly consists of:
*Installing FBI (crucial homebrew to install everything else)
*Strongly suggest you also install FTPD pro, to move files without taking ur SD card out of the console (optional tho)
*Download CIA files into your SD
*Install them with FBI

Try installing 3DS games first as it's easier than emulators, if you succeed go ahead and try with bubble's standalone emulators for genesis, NES and SNES, since those work well and are simple to set up.
If you're ok with that, then move on to DS games, and DS emulators (as in, emulators for other consoles made for DS which can run on 3DS) like gameyob, gbarunner2 and NGPDS. These don't use CIA method so you'll have to research a little bit, but it's easy once you get the hang of it
If you manage to do all that you're good to keep investigating what u want or need on your own i'd say, like N64, PS1, retroarch, and other useful homebrew
ok, i verified that at the end of this hacking guide https://3ds.hacks.guide/get-started it is explained how to install some homebrew, FBI included :)
I'm only interested to play 3DS, DS, GBA, GB/GBC (all Nintendo portable consoles) games on my Nintendo 3DS, nothing else, so iìm not interested to any other emulator.
So, if i'm not wrong:
1) 3DS games --> i have to directly install the games in .cia format with FBI. They should work perfectly
2) DS games --> i have to search a good emulator to run games. I have my roms file that i use with my pc emulator in .nds format. Can i use them with a DS emulator on Nintendo 3DS XL? If so, which is the emulator with best compatibility? Currently i'm using the R4 card and every game works perfectly
3) GBA games --> as above, here i have games in .gba format. Which is the best emulator?
4) GB/GBC --> same as above, i have games in .gb/.gbc format. Which is the suggested emulator?

thank you!

So, if i'm not wrong:
Have you read any of the posts that have been made so far..? When you ask for help it is often useful to provide some indication that you're actually reading people's responses. Has someone written something that you do not understand? :-/

You can buy the carts and run them that way, too.

If you're using the R4 card and everything works perfectly, why don't you want to keep using your R4 card?

The alternative to a flashcart is TWiLight Menu, but its compatibility is not perfect. Some people also prefer to use "forwarders" for DS games, which does the same thing as TWiLight Menu but allows games on the Home menu – but that can cause problems.

ok! I started the procedure, now i have to put some files in the SD card as explained here: https://3ds.hacks.guide/installing-boot9strap-(pichaxx), chapter INSTRUCTIONS. I'm also following this good guide: and at 7:40 minute, in the root there is only the Nintendo 3DS folder.
In my SD card, there is a new folder, DCIM, probably created during the first part of the hacking process (yesterdard it wasn't present): https://i.postimg.cc/j5pRmfkJ/Cattura2.png
Can i ignore it?

thanks

your DCIM folder holds your photos and screenshots made in games or with the camera

ok thanks! is it possible to delete it from the console? I don't find any option about that...or i can simply delete the DCIM folder manually, i suppose.

I finished succesfully the hacking process!!!! :) and i have all the application installed.

Now, i want to start from the GBA (and later GB/GBC), so i choosed New Super Ultimate Injector beta 27: beta 28 too is out but it seems that it has some issues...is this true? I found beta27 here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/discussion-new-super-ultimate-injector-nsui.500376/ and this guide: https://digiex.net/threads/new-supe...bc-gba-smd-gamegear-turbigrafx-16-roms.15394/

I will try to install some GBA games, i hope i will be able :) Currently i'm using a 4GB SD card, but if i want a bigger one, i suppose i have only to format in FAT32 another SD card and copy ALL the files from the current SD to the bigger one, is that correct?

thanks!

Its a normal folder of the 3ds. if you dont have photos you care of on there you can. But dont be surprised when the folder shows up again.

And yes. just make sure the new sd is formatted correctly. FAT32. for use of the 3ds.

thanks! If i will be able, i would like to put in the same microSD all my game collections for 3DS (about 10 games) and DS (about 20 game) too, not only GBA and GBC/GB games.

In any case i started to following the guide to create .cia files for GBA games, but i have a little issue: when i push on both the buttons "Download title screen from database" (or "boxart from database"), it appears this error:
https://i.postimg.cc/kX1md65G/Cattura.png
that it means: "Requested deleted: impossible to create a secure channel SSL/TLS"

how can i fix it?
thank you

i found the fix, and it works!! https://gist.github.com/bmaupin/981c496ca35093dcbccb7c365c76bbfc
i hope that this can help!

now i can install my games with FBI: i suppose they will be installed in the microSD, is that correct?
Another question: is it possible to put in the 3DS menu all the GBA games in the same folder? I mean: i would like to load on 3DS my GBA, GBC and GB games, but it every game has its own icon, it will be very difficult to search a GBA game or a GB game and so on because all the games would be together... it will be very useful to separate the games for every console...but i don't know if it is possible...

done! I have created GBA, GB and GBC folders and put inside my games alreay installed. I also have applied the badges, very good!
Now i only have to install DS and 3DS games. I suppose that for 3DS games, i only have to search the .cia files (currently i have the games in another format, because i run them with the R4 card) and install them with FBI.
But what about the DS games? Is it necessary to convert the .nds files in .cia files? If so, how can i do that?

thanks!
