What's the worst reward for 100%'ing a game?

There’s something immensely satisfying about fully perfecting a game, and uncovering all its secrets--reaching 100% completion. Whether that’s getting every map tile for 200.6% in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, or collecting the 120 Power Stars in Super Mario 64, it can feel like a huge accomplishment, especially when it’s accompanied by a shiny achievement or trophy. Some games even give players a fun little bonus for doing all that extra work, like how getting A ranks in every stage in Sonic Adventure 2 will unlock a playable 3D remake of Green Hill Zone. Not only do these rewards feel special, but they’re fantastic inclusions to give players that one last feeling of excitement before they move on to another game.

Some games, however, completely miss the mark. For example, in Assassin’s Creed 2, you’re given the optional task of collecting 100 feathers throughout the sprawling maps of Renaissance Italy. These tiny collectibles can be incredibly hard to find, and you’re never given a map marker at any point in the game, nor are you informed as to which ones you’ve already collected, which can make getting every single one a complete nightmare. Getting every feather should result in you getting an amazingly overpowered cool weapon, at least, right? Absolutely not. For all that meticulous work, you get the Auditore Cape, an equipable item that serves only to make every guard instantly aware of your actions at all times, in all areas. Your reward only makes the game more annoying to play in every aspect, which feels like a complete letdown.

And let’s not forget the entire Pokemon franchise, which tasks you with collecting every single Pokemon out there. At this point in time, that’s 898 creatures. When you do catch ‘em all, your grand prize is, in almost all cases, a “diploma”, a mere static image that says, congrats, player name, you filled the Pokedex. That’s all.

So, have you ever 100%’ed a game, only to be met with utter disappointment? Which game was that, and what lackluster reward did you get for all your hard work? Let us know in the comments!

I completed the original 1000 gamerscore in Halo 3 while I had Live Gold. A lot of those online-only achievements are effing impossible to do naturally, what the hell was Bungie thinking?!

Also, I liked the leets more... so yeah, the reward? that stupid flaming helmet for the space marines, literally nothing for leets, and a cosmetic that more or less became the global "kick me" sign to get bullied and harassed on every day while I still had the service.

This made me realize that I'm a filthy casual now.

Back in the day I completed many SNES/NES/64/GBA games and I can't remember any good reward for 100%'ing a game

Now I rarely complete a game because I get bired in less than 30 minutes.

But if I must say something: Any Pokemon game.

I 100%-ed Goldeneye on Wii. I wish there were MP rewards. Maybe locking away maps is a bit harsh but at there could have been additional MP characters. I remember 007 TWINE on N64 had almost a hundred bots (including correctly displaying their left and right arm), but of course Goldeneye on Wii does not even have Bots (which is a shame because in online MP there are 8 combatants rather than 4).

Mario 64- 100% it and your reward is lives…..for a game I just completed.

At least IIRC Banjo-Kazooie makes things easier before you face the final boss if you 100% the collectables.
And the Wing cap outside of the castle. Honestly, that's more than you get for 100% on Mario Sunshine where the only extra you get is a different still frame image being displayed when you win.

Not exactly some kind of reward but a bug. But 100% completed assassins Creed 2 only for sequence 7 and 8 not unlocking for the trophys 🙄

Still didn't manage to get those even after replaying them

Let's not forget about the special triple jump thats higher than the normal one and cancels fall damage when you hold A when landing after doing one.

After scoring a billion points in Hong Kong 97, your only reward is that the game will stop looping that annoying Wo Ai Beijing Tienanmen background music you can hear throughout the whole game even without turning off the console. Nice!.

You're wrong. The reward is watching the picture of a deceased man.

Legend of Zelda, Minish Cap for Me.
Not in the sense where the Sound Test house with the last heart piece for a full 100% sucked, not like that.

It was the fact I had to grind and grind and grind keystone pieces and mysterious shells, to then fuse and trade for figurines, and I needed ALL of them to unlock the secret house.

No idea how even but countless hours later, I had only 2 figurines to get.
Me thinking I can outsmart the game's rng, try to get the figurines with the low odds for saving the shells-- because fucking hell they are impossible to find when you literally had found them all and used them all for these figurines!
I managed to get 1 of the 2 missing figurines, but somehow, it was the VERY last one possible to get, and the game glitched, interpreting this as getting them all!
However since I did not actually have them all, I was stuck with an odd of 0% for that missing figurine, and trust me I spent hours again trying to get it, to work around this glitched state and finally 100% the game, but alas, I never was able to :(

So much time wasted stuck at 99.9% due to a glitch, this really was infuriating.
