New images for live-action 'Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City' released

Yet another Resident Evil live-action movie is in the works and slated for a release later this year. But this one is separate from the ones featuring Milla Jovovich. The upcoming Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is written and directed by Johannes Roberts who confirmed in a recent interview with IGN that "this movie really had nothing to do with the previous franchise". "This was all about returning to the games and creating a movie that was much more a horror movie than the sort of sci-fi action of the previous films," Roberts added.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City plot will revolve around the first two Resident Evil games and will as such feature iconic characters like Claire Redfield (Kaya Scodelario), Leon S. Kennedy (Avan Jogia), Albert Wesker (Tom Hopper), Richard Aiken (Chad Rook), Jill Valentine (Hannah John-Kamen), and Chris Redfield (Robbie Amell). IGN's interview also included exclusive images giving us a first look at the actors portraying those characters. You can see those 3 images below, where one is also of Lisa Trevor (Marina Mazepa):

“We worked very closely with Capcom. Every character and creature is from the game and as such, I wanted to be as faithful as possible. I wanted to create a truly immersive feeling for the fans,” Roberts said in the interview. “But that also became the trickiest part of adapting a piece of IP like this because I didn’t just want to put the game on screen - it had to be its own thing with living breathing characters and creatures (and, of course, zombies!) that felt true to the world.”

What do you think of those first images of Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City? Will you watch it when it premieres in theaters later this year (November 24 in the US, November 25 in Australia and December 3 in the UK)?

Is that Robbie Amell in one of those pictures? Because he seems like he would fit the Leon character a lot more than this dude who doesn't looks like he fits in his costume. I didn't play the original but did he have black long hair there?

Honestly, I've been impressed by strange castings before so I'll give it a chance when it comes out. I definitely think the dude would have fit the character more if he just shaved.

Are you blind or just kinda dumb? He's of Indian decent and looks it. Leons character has NEVER looked even remotely Indian.

Well, actually, he's of British descent as well and grew up in Canada. But more importantly, why do you even remotely care about that, you crybaby? I suppose you're a strong supporter of the "a position should be given to the best qualified applicant" idea, unless the applicant's skin color has a certain level of melanin.

Only people I see crying are the racists.

So I'm a racist because I don't like things like lets say... a character that was created as a black character and has existed as a black character for decades... being changed to a white character. Then yup, I'm racist. Shrug. Only people I see crying are the ones who don't like the opinions of others.

His father is British Indian. Thanks. And "crybaby"? Says the crybaby crying about my opinion. Hypocrite much? Also, I'm not a strong supporter of your lame ass assumption, but I am a strong supporter of one of the best qualified applicants would at least slightly resemble every version of the character that has ever existed. Sorry my opinion bothers you so much. Now sit down, crybaby.

Maybe out of all the nobodies who turned up to audition (it's a Canadian movie right?) he was the best? Would you prefer a less good actor who looked more like the game character? Maybe wait for a trailer to see if he's a good Leon.. or better yet forget this whole POS exists in the first place as it will probably be a turd of a movie.

Well this looks like absolute deep fried toss. Leon looks completely wrong and Claire looks like some mid 40s suburban soccer mom. It's not even like they had no good images to work with. I could MAYBE understand getting these results from a poor quality screenshot of the original Resi 2, but we have the remake now. We know EXACTLY what they're supposed to look like in glorious high definition. How'd they screw it up this bad? That's nearly impressive.

Seriously when i saw the pictures i tough it was a fan movie, is this a legit movie? did capcom actually gave rights to do this? are they that desperate?

There needs to be a line drawn somewhere ...
so your making a movie about a Chinese emperor in 1400 or something and if the best actor that showed up was a black guy you would cast him as a Chinese emperor on 1400s? when the rest of the cast would all be Asians?

I dont find racism trying to keep things like they were originally, be it history, books or videogames. If the original author designed them that way, who the hell is Hollywood/ or random movie companys to decide what is the correct look?when adapting storys or movies they should always follow the source material imo, that is the reason most videogame movies fail and even many book adaptations, they just change everything from story to characters and so on.

I will watch it and give it a thumb down. The CGi version is way better. And an old movie version was better but too bad that it was not an R. This one is an R. Sighing.
