I have it and I tested it on Nintendo Switch. I dont see any improvement or faster on "Most games". A few can runs on "decent" speed. No, I am not using the overclock, thought. :D
You haven't tested the updated retroarch core from the last month or so, which is what I said I was talking about.

I am talking about standalone but I dont think a month ago or so can be running Citra of Retroarch to Nintendo Switch. can't it ? I can test it.

I wasn't even aware there was a standalone, it must be outdated af. And yes it can, that's the point I'm making - sign up to m4xw's patreon if you want to try it for yourself, or look for youtube videos or something.

I already know that. I checked and realized that I have it in retroarch for Nintendo Switch. I hadn't used it for a while. That's why. And yes, I am right. If I am not using overclock and it is slow but playable and some like Pokemon (I dont like it) can run very decent, thought. My case remain with PC for better and powerful to run Citra easily. Nintendo Switch do not.

One more question...do you believe 3DS would run better on switch using Citra within Android 10? or just the Citra core within Retroarch (or no difference?)

No, no difference.. it will be incredibly slow even for Nintendo Switch within Android. Look at Play! - an PS2 Emulator. Same thing. Nintendo Switch is underpowered anyway. I would love that too but it won't.

There's diminishing returns, but I don't doubt that someone might make a breakthrough at some point and considerably increase the emulation speed of a DS or 3DS on the Switch. Didn't something like that happen to Dolphin for the PC at some point?

catlover007 already did a breakthrough for MelonDS latest release, where before you needed OC to run most DS games now almost all run flawlessly with no OC.

3DS however, given how even citra on PC is not precisely perfect and updates are slow, I'd give it like 10 years before the Switch can handle it with any playable speed.

Hello everyone,
As the title suggests, I'm looking for the best way to emulate DS games on the switch.
I've tried using the DeSmuME as well as the MelonDS cores via RetroArch and both run quite poorly. I've been looking into using MelonDS outside RetroArch as I hear it runs a bit smoother, but I haven't tested this yet. I'm also looking into installing Android on it and perhaps going the Lakka or DrasticDS emulator route but, again, haven't tested it yet.

Just looking for some recommendations as numerous sources I'm finding on google are quite heavily outdated.

Standalone melonDS on HOS (not the RA core) and DraStic on Switchroot Android (this last one is, by far, the best choice), those are the way to go.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
