Nintendo Wii game ports being delisted from the Nvidia Shield in China

nvidia-shield-china.900x.jpg

In 2017, it was announced that gamers would be able to experience Nintendo Wii games legitimately, on a non-Nintendo platform. The Nvidia Shield received ports of select Wii titles, such as New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Super Mario Galaxy, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and more, all in upscaled 1080p resolution, with the caveat being that they were only available to those in China. However, almost four years after the fact, those games are being delisted due to poor sales. According to industry analyst Daniel Ahmad, who previously broke the initial story of the Nvidia Shield Wii ports, the ability to download those very games is "being shut down". Those who purchased them will still be able to redownload them, though they require a server authentication in order to be played, and it's currently unclear as to how long support for said server will be active.

Did anybody ever found a way to run these on other android devices? I know you can just use dolphin and is probably better, but i'm curious. These wii games and a couple other console games were exclusive to the shield, i remember resident evil 5 and half life 2 being on there as well, but they were not playable at the time

I was reminded of these recently when someone on YouTube was talking about how Nintendo's exclusives are what make them great and all that, and I thought that that is such a weird move from Nintendo to put some of them on the Shield. Now this happened not soon after, and now I'm at peace lol.

No as it has quite sofisticated DRM.
SOPHISTICATED DRM!?

That's code for "No one cracked it yet" but I seen android stuff get cracked wide open from uptown to downtown, maybe even heaven or hell. Hopefully is a matter of time...

Or you know, NINTENDO PUT THEM ON THE SWITCH FOR A RESONABLE PRICE.

Noone cracked it because it requires OpenGL which doesn't work on almost all Android devices, so only Shield owners will profit from cracking it. :P

Well is a good thing I have a nvidia shield tv. Which is why I was curious if I can play it. But guess I'll just wait for EXPENSIVE NINTENDO SWITCH PORTS. :hateit:

A reason the Super Mario Galaxy (and Super Mario 64, too) reissue in the 3D All-Stars collection wasn't localized into Chinese is because it was done for the Nvidia Shield console and was translated by a company that wasn't Nintendo. Same thing would have happened with Super Mario Sunshine if they didn't leave it unreleased.

Now I wonder if it is possible to convert those iQue releases into ISOs so that they can be played on an actual Wii console?

Is there any way to get this on my nvidia shield?
AFAIK it only works on a custom firmware cooked by Nintendo for the Nvidia Shield. The only way to play these games is to import the device from China.

Digital Foundry made a video about that back in the day. They bought one of those units.

I don't think it worth that much, considering Galaxy is already on Switch, Twilight Princess HD will appear eventually and Punch Out ultimate experience is really the Wiimotes + Balance Board.

It would be like porting Nintendo games to PC, but in only Russia, and then being surprised sales aren't great. Russians are very well known for buying all their games, lol.
Your view of China is outdated. The growing middle class is spending a lot of money on games. Seeing someone play Nintendo Switch in the metro is common. The sales are held back by the government approval system though. It is very slow. Most money is being made on Chinese cell phone games.
