EA Play Live 2021 - roundup - Dead Space remake announced

EA is here to be the last remaining major player revealing their future plans this summer. While they bowed out of showing anything in June, EA has a whole lineup of titles to showcase in their annual event, which we'll cover here, summarizing the hour-long stream.

Live Coverage

A game about complete randomness, or at least, where life is determined by dice rolls, is the first thing EA has to show. It has a very Tim Burton-esque art style. It's called Lost in Random.

Codemasters is the latest acquisition of EA, with the studio showing us what they've got in store for their racing sims. Grid: Legends is their latest game. and it'll have tons of different cars to race, whether it's big trucks or sporty racecars, and varied racers to play as and against. The team is hyping their story mode.

Apex Legends is next. What's next? Emergence. A new hero, Seer, has drones that can track enemies, and brand new abilities. He's a stealthy legend, and can avoid detection if you move slowly. Ranked Arena mode will also be coming soon.

Lost in Random gets another feature, in which you get to see its gameplay, which has some 3D platformer elements. The combat system is third person action, with cards that can randomize how you fight against enemies.

Knockout City is getting a Season 2. There's new maps, rewards, skins, and more, with a launch on July 27th.

Battlefield 2042 will have three important modes, with the newest one focused on community feedback, all defined by the player's rules. The mode is called Portal, and appears to let you make your own custom matches with elements from all the Battlefield games of the past. You'll be able to share your custom game modes, too.

Finally, Dead Space is getting a remake, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It only got a short teaser, but the game has been confirmed.

It's not that Dead Space needs a remake, as it isn't that old.

Will it be a remaster, most probably? It was an amazing game with great sound design, specially the outside sound.

Dead Space is one of the few, if not the only, fucking worthwhile IP from them.
Hands down is one of the best horror franchises of all time, and it was such a shame that it didn't continued past 3.
Hopefully, this changes things.

Knowing EA, Dead Space for the current gen is going to demand an extra $600 in loot boxes to survive the first necromorph you encounter in the game, and pinging you for an extra $100 USD for every chapter, and $300 for a new game plus.

God forbid you actually want to speedrun what they'll ruin the game into.

I'm more interested in WHO is making this remake/remaster/whatever it is. They killed Visceral so it's not the original developers. If it winds up being Respawn it'll most likely just be garbage since all they can make are things like Titanfall and Apex Legends. Not interested in things full of in your face over-bloomed "kill streak x50 +10000pts" crap. And more importantly than that, what kind of BS microtransactions will it have. Will have to wait and see, but as usual with anything EA shits out these days, wear a mask, a respirator, and carry a flamethrower with plenty of fuel before going anywhere near it.

It's Motive Studios - Jade Raymond's newish studio that put out Star Wars Squadrons. Also I feel the need to point out that Respawn is also responsible for Jedi Fallen Order which is not really a ""kill streak x50 +10000pts"" joint.

Jedi Fallen Order is a souls game wearing a star wars skin. So EA only allowed it because they were fully expecting to shove about $4000 USD worth of pay2win just to pass the first boss.

Keep in mind, EA still has Andrew (Android) wilson at the helm. Until that sociopathic bastard leaves the company, no single player game to come out of EA will ever be remotely fair, balanced, or fun. He has publicly voiced his disdain for any form of gaming that doesn't involve Recurrent user spending and Surprise Mechanics on multiple occasions.

#CancelAndroidWilson and then maybe there is something to save within EA. otherwise, they aren't even in the conversation.

If it's a remaster, then I sure as hell hope it's more akin to the Halo remasters and not just a simple upscale like the numerous "HD Remaster"'s out there.

While I do get the notion that having a remake/remaster of a game when it's still relatively feasible to grab the original and play on the appropriate environment seems like a cash grab, when you're dealing with accountants who can't even measure past the last 24 hours worth of interest (earnings), and are quick to dump anything that isn't some billion-seller? Being able to take assets already made and possibly fixing what was broken or even adding stuff meant to be in the first time around (and otherwise absent) is not a crazy maneuver.

If not for enough people buying Travis Strikes Again, we the public would have never even had No More Heroes 3 to look forward to. They needed something to demonstrate to investors and stockholders, that there's enough interest in the series to justify a new take on it.

rip dead space, i hope not.
Hopefully it's a proper remake, and not a half-assed remaster like they did with Bioshock. Many things in the HD Bioshock actually look WORSE than the original. I don't understand what they were thinking. "See this glorious realistic water texture here? Yeah, let's just make that look like a smeared mess, and call it HD. That's perfect." ~Bioshock's CEO, or whatever.

Well, from what I'm reading they're redoing it from the ground up on the Frostbite engine. Not sure what the first game was built on, though.

Is that what call of duty runs on? If so, that should be a decent experience!
