It took years, legal issues, arrests and a lot of water under the bridge. And one day, it happened.
Tinfoil newest version, 12.10, comes with several new features and useful tweaks, including the rise of a white flag with the removal of all Hekate checks (which is no surprise at all, considering the whole SX and TX situation).

Here's the complete log or this new update:
  • Added support for a new NSP compression format called NSZ, which can compress NSP's up to 80% smaller which reduces their storage footprint, and increases their install speed. The format is described here: https://github.com/blawar/nsz
  • Added ability to re-arrange locations.
  • Added support for "blocked" NSZ installation.
  • Automatically resets required version upon install and uninstall.
  • Added Help section.
  • Added "Recommended" section.
  • Added "Parental Mode" for filtering content and features for young children.
  • Added Retroarch ROM launching.
  • This application does not work with sys-clk, ReverseNX, SaltyNX, and likely others. If you are experiencing issues, please try removing every single file on your sd card except sdmc:/nintendo/ and reinstall your CFW without any mods + tinfoil.
  • Added game cartridge installation.
  • Added USB hard drive support.
  • Added support for zippysave and anonfiles.
  • Removed all hekate checks.
  • Removed junk DLC block.
  • Fixed a few MTP bugs. Improved MTP stability. If MTP freezes, just unplug and re-plug the USB cable, you do not have to restart Tinfoil.

In order for this new version to work correctly, you need the latest sigpatches for the latest Atmosphere:
Release Supports HOS firmware 12.1.0 and AMS 0.19.5 - R2 · ITotalJustice/patches (github.com)

Is this a new limitation or a general advice? Since Tinfoil worked fine with those in the previous versions.

I think it's a limitation for simplicity's sake. SaltyNX which is used for ReverseNX has an exceptions file you can add Tinfoil to. Just make sure it has a big (X) in front of the TitleID. As for sys-clk, don't do a general system OC and do it by title only, same thing for ReverseNX in the tool app. Otherwise you will experience crashes.

TLDR; Instead of giving a guide and having to deal with people not reading said guide and asking for help, they just put that as a general limitation.

Self installer was broken. Get new version.

If you had a real sx os license, you were always able to use tinfoil with hekate patches. It's worked for a very long time.

Now you no longer need a license. Very nice. But that installer not working was unrelated.

And everything OP mentioned has literally nothing to do with tinfoil or this situation. Way to combine the drama of the entire scene and try to blame it on one piece of useful software.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Never understood the hate towards Hekate. Majority of switch hackers will use it for conviency. Glad this got all sorted out
Do you have stats for this? Majority of people I know that use hekate use it to chainload fusee-primary. I see no reason to use hekate as a daily driver.

Never said anything about a hekate driver. Im stating that as a payload just as you pointed out.

I've think that been clear since like forever ago
Actually, it has been there till version 11.

wait what
There was a red splash screen at the start of the app telling you to remove Hekate. Otherwise, it won't boot.

If you manage to bypass that and ente anyways (all you need to do is momentarily rename the file patches.ini into something else), there were comments on the payloads section showing the toxicity, jealousy and hate these people holds against the actually great open souce options that Hekate and Atmosphere are.

Daily driver is a saying. It means people use it daily as their main whatever. In this case, they main payload. And as I said, I know more people who use hekate to chainload or not at all than I know people who use hekate and fss0.

No where in my comments mentions "Daily Driver" where are you reading this from? I'll just reiterate myself with more details here so I can do other things today. Most people use Hekate as a payload to boot into emunand/sysnand and use as a reboot to payload feature which coincides exactly what your talking about towards chainloading.

Thats how I use Hekate and those who migrated from Sxos to Atmoshpere are most likely using it to either preserve their emunand or make a new one. I'm not doubting how many ppl you know chooses otherwise, but if you got through the tutorial threads Hekate is everywhere. But as I said earlier majority of switch hackers are using Hekate...... as a "payload" Ive never even heard of a hekate driver tbh
Now back to the topic, in the past Tinfoil has been a pain in the ass towards Hekate users including me which is the main reason I had to use NeutOS Atmoshere to bypass the Hekate checks in tinfoil and to have thumbnail view options thats only the Sxos could have. If you want stats... Make a poll :)
