A handful of 'Trails' games will be officially released in the west, featuring fan-translated work

The Legend of Heroes franchise, otherwise known as the Kiseki or Trails series, has received some major news. After years of being ignored by localization companies, NIS America will finally be bringing Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure to English-speaking audiences. Fans might be aware that both of these titles have had unofficial English patches created by the fan translation group Geofront, who has just revealed that they've partnered with NIS America to use their work as the basis for the official localization. Multiple members of the Geofront team expressed their excitement over the deal through an announcement post on their site, though they also mentioned that this means the fan-translation patches will no longer be available on their website, asking fans to support the official release, now that one is happening.

Trails from Zero will be releasing in the fall of 2022 for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam and Epic), while Trails to Azure will be releasing in 2023 for those same platforms. In addition, NIS America will also be bringing The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails and The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie west as well.

Trying to think if this is the first fan translation picked up in such a manner.

Plenty of source recreation, level hackers and emulator authors doing much of the previous two plucked out of the community before, plus the whole sega thing a few years back, but this is new as far as I am aware.

Not quite, Aeon Genesis has released a bunch through https://www.timecapsulegames.com/ . Mind you the Legend of Heroes are on a while different scale though. Geofront did an awesome job, remember how long the Trails in the Sky titles took to translate?

If I remember correctly, the Dies Irae translation was a mostly-finished fan translation before the group making it was hired to release it officially with Kickstarter backing. That Visual Novel had a reputation for being obscenely difficult to translate, so it was pretty notable.

The Falcom JDK Band live performance last night was pretty rad too even with the setlist having little focus on older games and a majority of it being Trails material which would be a plus for some fans. The arrangements involved a saxophonist to shake things up a bit with some jazzy flair. You can still watch it on YouTube.

the only thing that might turn people off from falcom is they like to do lots of dlc. ys viii has around 28 dlc packages, and trails of cold steel 3 and 4 have over 50 apiece.

That's cool, idk if something like that has been done before but that's a really cool way for them to release the thing outside Japan for cheap and getting money for it

Most of those are pure fluff or fanservice though, or pretty much unneeded healing etc. items at least if playing non-nightmare difficulty. Preordered whatever digital bundle was most "elite" ToCS IV from Steam and I think that included most if not all DLC.

Kinda hoping that PC versions will follow Bamco's lead and you can buy the games with digital DL and physical swag.

Anyway, all four will go to my have to buy list :)

I have recently started playing Eiyuu Densetsu:Zero no Kiseki Evolution on PS Vita and then i will continue completing the whole series of these games, always on PS Vita.

I also have that game on my vita/pstv along with trails of cold steel 3 and 4 and ys 8 (even though I own it on the switch). I bought all dlc for all falcom games I own, haven't gotten into trails 3 or 4, but I've been through ys 8 twice. I didn't use any dlc that would make the game easier (only bought it after beating the game). the main bonus dungeon is a nightmare (haven't beaten it).

@godreborn ,i started from Eiyuu Densetsu: Zero no Kiseki Evolution, because the other titles of the series you can load the saves of the previous games,so i found that this is the first(also exists for PSP),then i will complete the others as well (Evolution, FC, SC, 3rd).
What is the difference with trails of cold steel 3&4 from this?

I'm not sure. afaik, the legend of heroes series has several spinoffs, and each is unrelated to the others. don't know for sure, but that's what I've read.

If you mean importing saves, ToCS III and IV load saves from previous games and give some extra fluff at least on PC and I believe on PS4 as well. Switch of course only has ToCS III & IV, so no previous save from ToCS II.

What I've understood though, there are no extra scenes based on your decisions in previous games like there is slight variation if you load savegame from ToCS I to ToCS II.

I'll get these and put 'em on my backlog lol

probably the same for me. I've bought a lot of switch games, but I almost never play the system. I'm just so obsessed with the wii u (just got done playing the vwii and usb loader gx, now I'm playing the wii u side). that's what I did with trails of cold steel III and IV, even though I bought all dlc. I was hoping to start playing alex kidd, but I haven't yet. maybe when ys ix comes out?
