dawnbomb how do you apply the tales of reve untia patch to the game

@Tevinthemasta I already have a more updated version in the works, will released in probably the next few days, (less then a week) but anyway, you...don't...

Modern emulators support direct loading files, users don't even have to patch games anymore! The file is just the raw mod files, simply right-click the game in citra, click open mods location, and paste the unzipped folder there (as in paste the romfs folder, not it's contents), and thats it just run the game. You don't have to patch any 3ds/wiiU/switch games directly anymore :) This also means for 'installing' updated, you nuke the mod folder, and add the new files, and boom done. No more keeping backups of clean games for translation updates! :D If you want it on real hardware, most custom firmware for 3ds also supports this same method, altho idk where the game mod folder is as i made everything exclusively with emulator.

That said (semi-reporting now) i prefer people ask questions for that kind of stuff on the discord server. I can also use new recruits as well if anyone wants to help.

@Nikokaro I get somewhat annoyed with that winkyface. I never understand these dumb questions everyone asks for full 100% plot translations when most, like 75% of jrpgs have the most completely barebones shit plot, and like another 15% have only world lore to explain the gameplay that means nothing about anything relevant, and then only like 10% of games have any actual plot. If i think about the tales series, there is like... what, only Symphonia1, Xillia2, and berseria with real plots? (Symphonia 2 only has it towards the end, and i guess there is abyss, but most of abyss is just luke running around as random shit happens all game). I already completed most of hearts, rebirth, and keroro (altho they do need some more polish with run through to get a 100% save, especially as there exists no rebirth 100% saves). Also, like almost no games have full 100% patches, almost all English patches for most games are partial.

And then you calling it useless... who would play a game? really? LMAO. why does anyone ever play video games? like oh my god. Yeah we could all read books and watch movies, and i have no idea why i have to explain this to a GBA temp user, but some people actually enjoy gameplay in videogames. Things like learning abilities, strategically gear building and loadouts, skill customization, and especially boss fights. I wonder what you think about stuff like card games such as slay the spire? GEEZ. At any rate, nothing i'm touching has a actual plot. Hell, keroro has like a negative plot sense it's just a isekai RPG parody plot (Everyone gets pulled into a JRPG video game console world and they are beating the game to get home to the real world). But for what it's worth, rebirth already has a full english plot translation as readalong, and hearts DS (both including all skits), and keroro has a most plot translation readalong.

I've have began starter level work on english plot for keroro, so far it's just the tutorial building tho as i wait for script dumps and work on reve unitia a bit more. Depending how things go, i may also look to add more difficulty modifications to reve unitia, as unfortunately it seems it was made for ages 10 and under, unlike most of the series. I also added some minor stuff for Keroro already, (but one could argue it's easier as well as i made some quality of life changes as well..)

I hope in the near future to also start work on some major tales of randomizers (as tales currently has none). Should be exciting.

Thank you for your comprehensive response and the time taken, I'm flattered. You've earned a "like" from me.:)
@Nikokaro I get somewhat annoyed with that winkyface.
Anyway, there was no need to get so upset. Mine was clearly a provocation, between serious and facetious.
I like to poke fun and stir up debate. :P

Weird. But this is the request that 99% of jrpgs fanatics make, and it doesn't seem that difficult to understand.
There is no point in arguing about this; what is trivial and boring to one may be engaging and entertaining to another. The ancient Romans used to say "quot capita, tot sententiae" (many heads for as many opinions).
And then to judge the value of their plot I assume you understand the japanese language, unlike me.
Surely there will be some who will appreciate the translation of just the menus, like that "cutie" person who has summoned the living corpses in the previous post.
...but some people actually enjoy gameplay in videogames. Things like learning abilities, strategically gear building and loadouts, skill customization, and especially boss fights.
I agree with all that, but mainly, in the case of rpgs, also being able to follow the development of the plot.

Among other things, it's not just a matter of appreciating and being involved in the plot, but first and foremost of knowing what to do, where to go, what to look for, who to interact with, what relationship develops between the characters, sentimental ties, friendship or repulsion, origin and characteristics of the enemies, the ultimate goal, etc: not to mention the importance of getting to know the protagonists and becoming attached to them.

In conclusion, I'm not sure if you'll make an attempt to translate (and insert) the dialogues of any of these titles; forgive me if I understood little more than half of what you wrote.
Personally, I'm only interested in "Tales of Hearts", which, from what I've read here and there, shouldn't have such a trivial plot; If you were to complete the translation of it, I would be very grateful and you would deserve another 'like' from me.
I hope my uncertain english was comprehensible enough to roughly convey my thoughts.

Greetings, with sympathy and respect from a fellow rpg gamer.:)

As i said, hearts already has mostly full menus and a full read along English plot, altho i do plan to further polish it in the future, you could technically play the entire game through right now in English and understand the entire plot.

At this moment while waiting on a update to Reve unitias text tool (I did the story upto Chapter 1 battle, can't insert yet need tool update) i have chosen to spend my time pivoting to tales of xillia, and see if i can't make a randomizer. I FINALLY got the game files open like 5 minutes ago, but its insanely unsorted unlike any tales game i've worked on before. Hopefully my new assistant can figure what files things are being read into RPCS3 memory to find where things are coming from. But while i wait on that... i'll map out some of Xillias ISO dump files, and then possibly translate misc non-plot parts of Reve Unitia while i wait.

I 100% want help if anyone out there knows how to use a hex editor, and is willing to assist in tales projects. No japanese knowledge required. It would massively speed up all work, altho i can do it myself, but it would save SO MUCH TIME having a assistant.

Forgive me if I struggle to understand, don't dislike me...
...a full read along English plot...
By this you mean a separate document with translated dialogues, or have I misunderstood? In fact in your site, where you can download the patch (v.0.825), there is no mention of the translated storyline.

Also, how come the translation patch is about 240Mb? Did you accidentally upload the whole game, rom + patch?
Isn't there a leaner version available, for the poor people who have only a few Giga connection?
Thanks :)

My site doesn't talk about a lot, im just busy and i need to update stuff. Anyway, yes, it has a full readalong seperate document with the plot (only because i could not find where ingame plot text was stored for hearts DS)

You should also pre-plan your classes in hearts DS, each game has like literally 1 million possibly party combinations that are all mutually exclusive with eachother, because the game uses 3 way branch class promotions, and it happens 10+ times for some characters. You can't ever undo your choices either, its very complex and in depth.

As for the 240mb thing... your right, wow, i accidentally linked the rom, oops! D: I will fix that.....
But even if the patch was 2GB, i wouldn't care, people who have such insanely poor internet shouldn't be playing games, they should work a day at minimum wage and upgrade their internet for the next year to unlimited. It's not that expensive to upgrade... we ain't living in 2002 anymore.

...But yes, i'll what it for the patch, idk how i made that mistake.

Edit: It's now a patch instead of the translated rom >_>;
Use the ANIME rom, not the CGI rom. (Tales of hearts DS released with 2 versions, this patch is for ANIME edition)

wow way to be a massive bigot towards people. there are a multitude of factors in peoples' lives going on least of which includes ISPs cheaping out on infrastructure

If your gonna come at me, at least get your argument straight. ISP infrastructure has no effect on data cap limits. It's on people paying the 10$ extra (15$ in some areas) a month to get unlimited. and really, who the fuck doesn't have unlimited in this day and age? You can't even be alive online without unlimited.

We're all happy to know that you don't care because you live in a first rate country but most people don't. As rwbonesy said, no need to be a biggot about it. Not to mention people use patch to stay in that grey area of the law where you don't send copyrighted material, if you want to do it, fine, but that's Warez and against forum policies.
So just stop trying to argue about things like this because many people actually can't have unlimited data. Saying that "you can't be alive online without unlimited" is wrong and honestly quite intolerant against "the rest of the world"
Poor Nikokaro asked for a patch and you tell him that he doesn't deserve to play damn....

Edit: it seems Nikokaro had his message removed, but there is a notification, but myus message was also removed, but even that it ever existed to begin with was scrubbed. interesting.....

Well then i'll reformat my message to @rwbonesy instead.

It's not massive, it's true there are a multitude of factors, and that some ISP's cheap out on internet, but if someone can't afford internet, thats a huge them problem, and they need to address that instead of playing video games and ignoring it. In this day and age, internet is a straight up requirement, and it can be a serious problem if someone is lacking a acceptable internet connection.

lmao i live in the US and it's another 40 dollars for unlimited at the only ISP worth a damn speeds/"reliability"-wise in my area because CenturyLink is bad

and this is not even counting people living in other countries both north and south of the equator where sure, they may not have data caps but their infrastructure or ISPs are SUPER bad

check yourself before you wreck yourself, dawg

I noticed a blooper on the TOH download page on Blade 2187's website. It said that the translator's cut patch link was visible only if you have a Playstation 5... this was meant as a joke, as of course 10 years ago, it didn't exist, but now it does. I pointed it out in the comments and he responded and updated it! Which proves he's still around. It's a real jerk move on his part that you can't load saved games on his patch. I was going to ask if anyone knew how to edit an Xdelta file to remove that element before applying the patch, but I see Dawnbomb is working on a replacement, so nice one! Even translated menus is better than nothing.
