Hello, Ive been searching for about a month now but I cant seem to find a solution.
Hello and welcome to GBAtemp.

So I have a 3ds for like 10 years now, and hadnt used it in a long time. So i started it up and it said "update available" I, not having used it for years, thought it would be fine to update it, but than my r4i card did not work anymore.
Wow. You must have not used it in a very long time (or not updated it). Nintendo hasn't tried to block DS mode flashcarts in a very long time. Last whitelist update cam with 7.0.0-13.

This is my card: r4i 3ds with wifi icon.
This is what ive done so far:
(Accidentily) update my nintendo 3ds to version 11.14.
Please show me how to accidentally update a 2|3DS.

Than i put my microsd from the r4i card in the pc, formatted it and put the newest kernel on it from the site writen on my card.
This didnt do anything, my 3ds still gives me the "...please turn off system..." error.
Ah, the good old "Something doesn't work? Let's randomly delete things!!"-method. The kernel software on the micro-SD has no impact on the whitelist check. Only a flashcart firmware update could possibly get around this.

Than i tried to upgrade the card via 2 friends their dsi, but the "start" button does not appear on either, they are both version 1.4.
What start button? A start button in the firmware upgrade software? So the DSi on low version do boot the R4 without error? Please do not update the DSi consoles. DSi updates are basically useless and only block flashcarts.

Now I would like to know if I would be able to upgrade my card with a different 3ds. Or if there is something else i can do.
If you can boot the flashcart kernel on any another DS system and an official firmware upgrade for your exact R4 clone exists, you should be able to use it. To rule out any possible blocking issues, the best devices for this are the very first DS ("Phat") and the DS Lite.
As for the something else: This would be installing custom firmware on your 3DS with The Guide: https://3ds.hacks.guide/
Luma3DS will disable the whitelist check and make your R4 boot again without updating its firmware. There is also TWiLight Menu++ which offers booting DS games without any flashcart on DSi and 2|3DS systems.

Good luck and have fun!

Is there a way to install ftpd to NAND, or some other method so that I can use the 3DS as an SD Card reader for SD cards that don't already have homebrew launcher + ftpd installed on it?

Hello people! Would there be any disadvantage to installing Luma3DS directly to a FIRM partition?

I'm trying to dump a few of my games and install them, CIA files, but I want to make sure I completely understand the process and do it correctly. However it doesn't seem like there is much to it. God9, select gamecart, trim CIA, create, and install with FBI. May I missing anything? I would like to play online with these dumped games on my first and second 3DS. I do not believe I need to do anything special like handling title headers, because that isn't relative to cia files. Did I miss anything? Thank you!

I have three older 3DS models laying around which were hacked via gateway back in the day, they are on emunand 9.2 or something. I did install luma on a fresh new one a year ago and was now wondering if i can just follow the tutorial with the old 3ds consoles too or if that will conflict with what i did back then via gateway (sound hax). do i have to somehow reset the consoles first or just jump into ntr boot via my flascard and install luma the normal way? i dont want to brick the old systems!

That method works, but if you use the latest version of GodMode9, you can install each title directly from the cart, which takes a lot less time.

Sadly, I bought the second 3DS second hand and got ripped off. The gameport is damage. I already tried to replace one on another device and it didn't go well. This is my only option. But thank you for the heads up.

From what I've heard, the 3DS/2DS has the chipsets onboard for the GBA. Did anyone ever have success trying to custom modify a 2DS to add a GBA port and have it actually work properly? What about adding a link-cable socket to a DS/DS Lite?

My 3DS makes weird noises when leaving DS games and getting error codes, and they’re loud, too. Did I screw up really badly?

Right so I'm in a predicament.

Recently a friend gave me their old 3DS with Luma V7.0.3, asking me to remove the custom firmware from the device (I assumed they wanted me to install a different CFW at a later date). I thought that removing all files from the SD card would work but this clearly wasn't the case. I used Disk Drill software to try and reclaim the lost files but it's clear some are missing and possibly corrupt. I simply want to remove the CFW without completely wiping the console. Any help would be appreciated if this is even possible!

*Sigh*
  • Want to remove CFW ✓
  • Randomly delete things on SD and notice this didn't help for some reason ✓
  • Considering "Format System Memory" (which will not remove CFW anyway – but delete all games and save data) ✓
Not much missing here for the strange "Let's delete everything!! I want a fresh start!!"-method (which caused a lot of trouble in the past).

Anyway: Luma3DS v7.0.3 means the console has still has A9LH instead of B9S.
I personally chose to not assist anymore on remove CFW questions.

Good luck and have fun!

Hello. Is the Luma L2 cache enabled by default? If so, how do I disable it, please? So it's on default setting.
Found it in the boot settings! But I'm confused as to what the 'New 3ds menu' is? How do I know what is on/off?

Hi everyone. I've started to play with my 3DD again after some time and noticed the new update to version 11.14 came out. I decided to ignore it since I wasn't playing anything online and just kept my wifi turned off but recently I wanted to get online again but didn't know if I needed to update anything else.
I have Luma on v10.2, godmode9 on v1.2.7 and wanted to know if they're ok. I also couldn't remember where to to check b9s version.
So, do I need to update anything or is it ok to update the 3ds?

Update Luma first to 10.2.1. It fixes the system version 11.14 from not booting.
