Considering I've been married longer than most people in this forum have been alive... You'd think I would say yes. But, no. Not at all. The concept of "Soul Mate" suggests that there are any 2 people that are predestined to meet and be together, and it could be no other way. I say, if there is only 1 person in this world whom you can relate to and live a happy life with, there is something seriously wrong with you.

I think the issue is that there are two ways to see this.. either literally or as a euphemism. It may be that experience makes you realise it's just another way of saying someone who you decided was worth the effort.

Not very romantic I know, but it seems to me that healthy relationships are an equation that needs to balance and not tip either way.

I think the closer the balance, the more euphoric the experience. Of course we have trouble balancing that in ourselves, we'd have trouble finding that balance with someone else.

Yes, I do.
But, most of all, I believe that the right person isn't "perfect" but that we, both, together, must accept the other as he/she is.
We have to love the whole of our lover, even (and stronger) his/her shadows

Someone already linked the xkcd hypothetical which is a fun one.

Some have pondered whether "something similar" means that when humans were largely restricted to villages then that village became the life and thus a mutual set of interests in the world.
However as soon as bicycles were invented the distance shot up
https://www.theguardian.com/environ...pools-secret-history-of-19th-century-cyclists
and dating websites covering Europe (which still has no major ones for actual dating, instead just hookups, and then some random US company or whatever pissing away millions trying to advertise their way in) long noted that the amount of people speaking the right language in a unit area made it really quite difficult.

We could consider chemicals (smell and attraction being an interesting field, though the changes associated with birth control make for even more interesting reading), psychology (male and female, r and K reproductive strategies https://www.cs.montana.edu/webworks...pters/chapter002/section004/blue/page003.html ), statistics (distance is still a thing) and more general biology as well.

For myself. If there are then my general approach of "potentially more hassle than it is worth so eh" means someone is going without. Which I would find hilarious -- I normally have to work hard to cause grief for others and all I have to do is do nothing... tell me more. Have no reason at all to believe the universe decided hairless apes on a random rock get a particularly suited partner as befits their technological development and random circumstances, and if it does and that is the sole extent of its meddling then... yeah that seems unpleasant. Though more generally it mostly seems like a biological drive/survival trait that millions of years of evolution programmed into life, one humans are just about smart enough to be starting to play with and negate via their own actions, even if still somewhat of a slave to biology.

don't believe anything you find on a site with the last name repack or anything from fugazi if you're in the ps3 or ps4 scenes. some of his stuff has idps/console id stealers, so chances are, you'll be banned on either system. I know you can't test it on the ps4, but chances are you're banned within a matter of days if you were to update. you see why I hate them?

Of course we all have our different opinions, and I respect yours. I would like to point out that while I do believe in soulmates, it's not as easy as you say it in your post (in my opinion/belief that is).
I believe that soulmates exist, but it's not sure you'll ever meet them. You can live a full, happy life with someone who is your beloved partner even if they're not your soulmate. The soulmate isn't the only person you can live a happy life with.

Why do I believe? Well, people will call BS, but I dreamt of a girl very vividly. I had never seen her before. A few days later she contacted me on a website, but I didn't know it was her - there were no pictures or anything. We wrote messages (language exchange) and I fell for the person behind the words. I told her about the dream, she got interested and asked me to tell her some details. I did. And I described her to a tee. I drew a picture of the clothes she wore in the dream, so she decided to take a photo of the clothes she just had bought but never worn yet, and it was the ones I drew. She asked the height, I recalled how tall she was compared to me and estimated X cm - and it was exactly her height.
I had still not seen her face by this point.
A while later, when I finally got to see her - sure, it was the girl in the dream. Born in Japan, living in Canada at the time, the chance of us meeting was miniscule. Especially since I hadn't used the website for 6 months by the time she wrote to me - and my profile was at the bottom because of inactivity.

But something drew her to my profile. Days after I dreamed about her.

I also thought of her a lot one day, "sending positive energy" as you might say. It wasn't a prayer or anything, but close to it - wishing her a lot of positivity and sending love... but I didn't tell her that, I just did it in my mind.
Later that day, she told me that she, during the day, got a very peculiar feeling. Her whole body was tingling and she felt very happy, suddenly, and it matched up timing wise to when I "sent the energy".
And I'm not one who believes in energies and shit. But... there was some connection.
When she was upset, I could feel it all day until she contacted me and told me she was upset.

We became an item, met twice IRL (for a total of 33 days). But she decided that she didn't need me anymore (or just didn't love me). So I had my soulmate, but lost her.
But I am positive she was my soulmate. Even if the love wasn't mutual, our souls were connected.

That's how I see the concept of soulmates - not the hollywood "love of my life" thing. The love of your life could be anyone, doesn't have to be a soulmate.

I don't believe that such a thing exists. There is no perfect counterpart, certainly not in my case, and it probably would be boring, too.

I do however believe that a relationship can only come to fruition if people share at least one or two common interests. It won't work if you have nothing that both of you can relate to.

Uh... Why must my upbringing have been strange? Please tell me.
the fact that you would classify somebody who doesn't give a crap about you as your soul mate, for starters. How that relates to upbringing? Well, besides tv and movies, we tend to formulate our idea of love by watching and listening to our parents and/or siblings, if applicable.

Is soulmate any kind of reference like soul food? Some reason I feel like the origin of the term came form the idea of soul food. Most people don't think of love, or relationships as spiritual, some do, but most think of it rationally. I'm sure each person spiritual or rational has their reasons to believe it that way.

I do believe in soulmates, but I don't believe that this should be the only one soulmate and for the whole life. I think there could be a person who temporarily fit me with the same interests.

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.

@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.

Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
