Hi all,

in another post, a bunch of people help me out understand what I got myself into when I purchased a modded xbox360 with games pre-installed. I thank them very much again and now that I have tested the waters, I am ready to go for a swim in the ocean of pseudo retrograming (is playing the xbox360 nowadays already retrogaming?)

Anyway, I have a series of questions and hopefully the nice folks around can either direct me on the path of knowledge or straight up give me the answers. I will be thankful no matter what. I have attached pictures below related to my questions.

1. what is nex2god and how do I use it?
2. How can I install xbox classic games?
3. how do i install an emulator? what is the most recent system the xbox360 can emulate semi-properly?
4.What are xbox arcade games?
5. Do I need any particular homebrews? any recommendations?

Yeah load up NAND Flasher 360 and dump the NAND and boot XeLL by pressing eject to write down your CPU key.

Anyway since you have FSD, I've written a really neat tutorial about how to set it up.
Yours is pretty much set up so just skip to the adding games part.

Others have taken it but for the sake of knocking out a list

1. That is more likely nxe2god.
nxe is a menu change that the 360 underwent (see blades menu for the older version) and with it came the ability to install a copy of the disc to the hard drive but use the disc for authentication.
god aka games on demand is an early take on downloadable games on consoles and obviously did not need a disc.
Data wise there is no difference between nxe and god so when homebrew came along for the 360 you got the option to convert it.
To that end you can put a disc in, copy it to the drive using the normal menu, run nxe2god and have them appear as god installs on the normal menu and whatever else.
It is far from the only way to install such games or play them -- if you have a homebrew enabled 360 (as opposed to a DVD modded one) then you can convert isos to GOD format (see iso2god), extract isos to folders and run them directly using other homebrew programs from either the internal hard drive or a USB drive, and most will usually fire them across the network via FTP to land it on the internal drive (and probably USB as well if you can't be bothered to unplug and replug).
2.eh...
The 360 had limited backwards compatibility with the original xbox by virtue of an emulator MS provided and put on a separate partition on the hard drive.
Hacked versions of this emulator later happened that tried to allow more to be played, as well as homebrew/hacked versions of original xbox games.
JTAG/RGH 360s can and often do have hard drives replaced but not everybody doing them will install either the emulator as a whole or a hacked version of it. To that end you want to ensure you have a hacked version on there. From there I am not sure what that menu setup wants for original xbox games.
3. I am not sure I would. 360 homebrew has some nice stuff but compared to the original xbox with its amazing collection, wii or anything modern on a raspberry pi...
4. Xbox arcade is more likely a shorthand version of xbox live arcade aka XBLA aka downloadable games that are not full games and are usually smaller games (usually also noted alongside DLC in hacking circles as it uses many of the same formats and has many of the same requirements to run it). There are loads of great XBLA titles -- bomberman act zero is absolutely atrocious, bomberman XBLA is right up there with the best of them, perfect dark zero is an unfortunate casualty in early 360 FPS era but perfect dark XBLA is the best version of original perfect dark you will see (high res, high framerate, all good stuff) until we get some decompiled versions in a few years (see what went for Mario 64 once it got a decompilation), bionic commando main disc game is less than stellar but perhaps not quite as offensive as the other examples where the XBLA effort is a wonderful little title and it is not all just ports and same franchise but the XBLA games in general.
Equally DLC has a lot to offer and has many examples of devs having done the main game, knowing the engine and thus then able to make something quite special. There are limited numbers of DLC titles you can install without modding on a stock console (see PIRS DLC) but this allows you it all. Sure you have horse armour level nonsense, and endless pay us £3 for this track in a music game (guitar hero, rock band, dancing games... were still the toast of the town even if being run into the ground so yeah), but you also get various Borderlands DLC which took a wonderful game and made it better still.
5. 360 homebrew is not really anything special, especially not compared to what came before and afterwards. Most things I would care for are tools to allow you to deal with official games. There are some emulators but I would far sooner grab a raspberry pi or old laptop instead these days.
It has some wonderful games, truly other than PC I think the 360 might have my favourite game library of anything on a big screen, and a JTAG/RGH box will in turn allow you to play games from all regions (as opposed to semi locked -- not all games will be locked, some will be locked to certain regions, abgx360 database then having what each were. Usually it was how much a company feared people importing a game if there were delays between regions but there were many exceptions), install games to USB/internal drive (said internal drive being any that fit as opposed to stock or one of a few select models), play DLC or XBLA, play with cheats, play modded versions of any of those (fair few mods of some merit are out there), possibly redirect controls to keyboard and mouse without need of expensive adapter, play system link* online without worrying about the ping limit they put in**, though in such scenarios I think it was only the host cares so you can happily play between a modded and stock box if the right one hosts).
It would have been nice to have a homebrew scene that rivalled, or indeed by dint of the extra power blew away, the original xbox but we never got it. The wii was contemporary to it and had a wonderful scene of its own so guess it was just difficulty of access (JTAG coming later and having very specific requirements, RGH later still and even more specific and fiddly). Today cheap PCs, android tablets and the likes of the raspberry pi likely mean we will never see such a thing again but hey I am all about doing things rather than having a specific platform so I am not complaining. To that end probably better to content yourself with the commercial offerings and playing them as well as you can, and quite a bit of it will do well on here vs finding it on PC and getting that modded to a suitable level.

**if you were around on the original xbox then all those games that allowed system link people then stuffed over a VPN service (xlinkkai being particularly popular) such that they appeared on the same network as far as it was concerned and play happily without paying for xbox live. Could even be done on an unhacked xbox, though anybody that knew about such things likely had a hacked xbox as there were means to dual boot and still use xbox live if you cared about such things.

1.nxe2god - dump the game officially on the blades/nxe/metro dash (the official dash), then use nxe2god to convert all nxe rips to work without a disc being in the drive. those will work with FS3, which is what you seem to be using.
2. to use xbox classic games, you need partition 2 for the emulator or hddx as it's known. if you don't have it, you need partition fixer to inject it (it won't format the drive). then, set up xbox games with a custom path in FS3, and refresh the database. alternatively, you can test a game out real quick by going into the game folder via file manager and clicking on default.xbe (xbox original main executable).
3. you can install an emulator by just placing it in a folder, then creating a custom folder path to it. be warned, the emulators for the 360 -- most are terrible.
4. xbox live arcade are downloadable games. use custom paths with those as well, then refresh the database for them to appear in that section. sometimes games appear in the wrong location if you don't select xbla or xbox360 respectively for the game. you can change category by going into the game's settings (think Y while hovering over the game).
5. not much really in terms of homebrew other than dashlaunch and possibly xm360. the latter isn't needed unless you want to find missing dlc or xbla games (doesn't work with indie games). it will tell you what you have and don't have. hdd partition fixer as well if you don't have the xbox partition, then you can delete the app. nxe2god for games you want to dump officially, then convert to god (games on demand) or downloaded xbox 360 games. they're almost exactly like ripped games except they don't need the disc in the drive.

that's my opinion on the matter. :D

btw, I suggest you follow one of @DinohScene 's tutorials. I don't have one on operating FSD/Aurora. btw, there's a somewhat new, hacked compatibility files with the xbox emulator. they even allow you to go into the guide. you need to enable hddx (don't copy directly or it won't work). hddx has to be available for the files to copy correctly. if not, it simply doesn't copy anything even though it says successful with say filezilla. though, you can create an ftp:// link in windows explorer as well and map a drive. I did that with my ps3 stuff (not 360, since I didn't think it'd be necessary):

upload_2021-3-12_11-21-28.png

you can only map network folders with smb 2.0, which is what windows 10 uses. mapping network drives is smb 1.0 only, which is default in windows 7 or in features with windows 10. I only mapped folders, since smb 1.0 has security issues. this is true of both ps3 and 360.

I'm glad for this thread. I just recently purchased a modified Xbox 360 console myself. It's an Xbox 360 S console, modified with RGH. It's on Dashboard 2.0.1.7559. Should I leave it on that dashboard? Also, there's something like 5 profiles stored on this xbox. One is called "keep me". Am I able to delete all of those? I dumped my nand using an app called simple 360 nand flasher by swizzy v1.2. It dumped it and then I exited the app. It has Aurora and XeX menu 1.2 installed onto it.

I think you mean 17559. that is the latest, so you're good. you can delete the profiles, yes. I use nand flasher 360 myself to dump and flash the nand. I think I might've used the one you used. swizzy is a good dev too, so it's probably good.

I found out more information about my console. It was originally purchased from Console Warehouse. They sell pre-modified xbox 360 consoles, set up and ready to go. In a video on their Youtube page, it says that each console comes with a key vault file. I don't have a key vault file on my console though. Is a key vault still required to play online? I can purchase one from them for $4.99

the keyvault is part of the NAND. you can extract it if you want. it's required for online, yes, but you'll be banned instantly if you try to sign in. you need to use a stealth app or service, which I don't know much about.

There's 10 videos that Console Warehouse has on their youtube page on setting up your new console. The original owner of the console told me to watch these videos to figure out what the hell to do. I'm watching the stealth server youtube video now :)

How do I extract the keyvault file from the NAND? It was originally supplied with the console and was supposed to be in plain sight on the console, but it's not there anymore.

you'd have to google it, because it's been years since I extracted it. it can either be encrypted or decrypted afaik (I have both for both jtags I own).

btw, this is a good app to have. it will read your keyvault:

Thank you for your help/replies. I appreciate it, especially with how fast you reply

Why would I need to read my keyvault?

upon looking at that app, it can extract the keyvault. try it.

I used Simple 360 NAND Flasher v.12 to dump my nand. It created a file called flashdmp.bin which I'm assuming is my nand.bin. I used that with Keyvault, since it requires my NAND in order to extract the keyvault from the NAND. It created a file called KV Decrypt. Is that my keyvault file that I need? :D

yes, it should be. load it in the app and see if it reads it.

I think you put that kv file on the root of the hdd. then, you use the stealth app. I've never tried it though. it requires visual studio and the xbox development kit to compile, I think. as you can see, microsoft has their shit together quite a bit more than sony does. you normally get banned nearly instantly if using a jtag/rgh. the longest time I've heard of one surviving is 5 hours.

Homebrew on the Xbox 360 isn't great

However it does have a functional nes emulator which works nicely fceux iirc also has snes and n64 iirc, idk how well they work

There is a super Mario war port which is actually really nice on the 360, and supports 4 players

Get a USB flash drive, create a folder called
Content, go inside content, create another folder called exactly
0000000000000000

Then inside this folder copy xexmenu code99999

Plug it in, press the home button and go to installed games/demos, it should pop up,

https://www.mediafire.com/file/y1x5b56arhofwsa/XeXMenu_v1.1-LIVE.rar/file

This allows you to copy files from USB, to anywhere, also allows you to boot software, if you're going to use online stealth, you will have to use xexmenu

You can also just extract the game iso, put it in folder, boot straight from USB,

Also Xbox 360 neighborhood is a very convenient tool

For og Xbox, you'll need the 360 compatibility partition tool, and a copy of the most recent 360 backwards compat files
