I have a wii u external hard drive that plugged in to windows 10 and clicked on initialized. Now the wii u is asking to reformat the drive to use it again. The drive is powered by a usb hub and worked 4 days ago I just wanted to try put more games on it. The drive is nearly full of games and saves. In windows it shows up like this Is there anyway to save my games without having to reformat and reinstall them again?

Pretty sure it's gone. Maybe some recovery program could recover it but I've never had any luck with them. Just learn your lesson don't do things like that without asking. If you had asked on gbatemp first someone would have said not to do it.

The reason is Wii U has it's own hard drive format and Windows has a different one, and the two don't cross over. If it was Wii you could have or PS3, but Nintendo made it's own format for Wii U for hard drives so once you initialized it in Windows, Wii U wont read it without a format and everything that was on the hdd was gone the second you did that in Windows.

Is there any way to recover the games on it?

No, you destroyed everything on it when you did that. If you can get the games once you can get them again. Look up Wii U Usb helper reddit workaround, it's a program that has all Wii U games.

I made rookie mistakes in the past too now I backup all my saves on all consoles and backup most games. You can reacquire games easier than you can saves of games that you spend countless hours on.

just had my wiiu HDD fail ... sucks to know game saves are on the drive :(

Save Mii can back up your saves. I know it's too late now but in the future I suggest you use that feature or it could happen again.

there may be a way to fix an initialized drive. I'm not sure if we know enough about how drives are used, but I know it's at least possible with the ps3. never do that again.

also gonna install twilight menu in my r4 flashcard

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

i dont have an sd card adapter but I have an usb sd card adapter

    Try Wood firmware
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    For your R4
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
It's old but it's the best firmware out for DS stuff
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    nvm it does support mine
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
but why choose it over ysmenu @Psionic Roshambo?
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    bc im stupid?
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    yea ik im stupid
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Slightly slower loading but a bit more convenient
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
