Xbox adds 74 new games to its FPS Boost lineup for Series X|S

asddsadadsads.png

In March, Xbox promised us more games would be getting the "FPS Boost" treatment, giving older games performance boosts when played on the Xbox Series X|S. They've delivered on that, as a whopping 74 new games have been added to the feature as of today. There's a whole host of various titles, most of which are available on Xbox Game Pass, and if you're playing on the Series X, there's a good few that have support for 120hz, such as Battlefield 1, DiRT 4, Halo: Spartan Assault, Titanfall 2, Metro: Last Light Redux, and more. Games that now run at 60fps on both the Series S and Series X include Yakuza 6, Skyrim: Special Edition, Life is Strange, Gears of War 4, Fallout 4, Dying Light, along with many other games. You can see the full list on the official Xbox Wire post revealing the news.

This is sadly why I bought my series X so soon (that and jumping ship while I could get decent money for my one x.) Improvement of games I already own is brilliant.

when they first announced this feature I was confused because I thought it was a feature of Xbox One X already, and it never was.

Now I am confused again because I thought that this boost was a system level feature, but now I learned that it is not, there is a list for that.

Before FPS boost, some games happen to run better due to increased CPU/GPU and storage speeds which could lead to any of the below:
A) Improved Load Times from faster storage medium/controllers.
B) Improved performance on games that did not reach their target framerate normally.
C) Improved/more consistent resolution by being able to remain at the top of the dynamic resolution.

FPS Boost goes a step further not by increasing raw power but instead tuning the Direct3D/X (not sure which term is right) layer directly to force the rendering at higher framerates beyond what a game is hardcoded to do. This requires testing because it can break some games that tie systems to their framerate such as animation, collision and AI.

It'd be nice if video games just felt good to play when I bought them and for the hardware they were designed for, but I guess I'm just a bit of a weirdo. Who'd ever want that, right!?!?!

When the previous generation had to deal with the relatively weak xbox one, getting 120 fps shouldn't be that much of an achievement.
