So I connected my Wii to my home Wifi, deciding that I wanted to add cover art to my backups (and backup some more games). I downloaded cover art through the USB loader and backed up a few of my games. Everything appeared to work fine at first. But after scrolling through the wheel menu, I noticed that some games stopped loading their cover art, then the menu froze. I reset my Wii, went back into USB Loader GX and scrolled around the menu for about 10 seconds before the games began to lose their cover art and the menu froze again.

I tried backing up Mario Strikers Charged, but it just instantly goes to 100% and then hangs there. I can't even cancel, so I have to reset the system. Changing display settings also causes the menu to freeze.

I have been using this loader for over a year and this freezing has never happened to me until now.

My USB stick is a Gigastone 128GB 3.1 Flash Drive in FAT32.

I can't check the Loader version. It freezes when I try to on the wii. The file on my computer says nov, 6 2018 tho.

Hello,

Your report ==> ok

take this version of usb loader gx 1271 ==>https://sourceforge.net/projects/usbloadergx/files/Releases/New revisions (3.0+)/

usb keys are not known to work correctly with wii.

But I think your problem comes from your USB key.

read this page you will form an opinion on the commantaires, especially what said @Cyan ==>https://gbatemp.net/threads/usb-loader-gx.149922/page-1363#post-9441937

Ok so I have deleted the old ULGX installed the one you linked and it is still freezing. I looked around for hard drives to replace my USB key and came across this one being recommended. Is this one any good for avoiding malfunctions? Should I get the 1TB or 2TB? Can it be powered with just one cable? Can an SSD work just fine?

the external hard drive you are quoting may be fine, I can't tell you if you need a Y cable.

In general, Western Digital works well with wii.

get an external hard drive maximum 2 T0, see 1 T0, the choice is yours.

For SSDs, avoid

@spyro3dsguy You could just try using my version of the loader, since it fixes dozens of bugs found in these old official versions and it boots with IOS58.

If it freezes with my version too then go into the loaders settings and change the loaders IOS to 58. Leave the game IOS set to 249.

I'd still recommend using a USB HDD over a USB flash drive, even if my suggestion works since you might randomly encounter freezes when you're using IOS58 and data is being written to the USB.

@blackb0x @jeannotte I just received the hard drive from the link today, formatted it to FAT32 via Wii Backup Manager and transferred my games. But when I boot up ULGX it freezes at initializing USB device.

I tried switching the IOS from 249 to 58, but it just ignores my Wii/GC games and only shows the NAND. I tried the mod version above and it just hangs at "reinitializing device".

Edit: I just got it working. I formatted the HDD from FAT32 back to NTFS and now the loader can see and launch my games. No freezing so far either. Thanks for the help!
