i will try to help here
first, the 3ds and the 2ds (and the "xl" variants, and for this matter the "new" variants as well) are the same. so we are going to talk about "3ds" but that means all the 3ds family (3ds, 3ds xl, 2ds, new 3ds, etc)
second:
the games come in .cia format. its like saying .doc or .txt or .mp3, and you need to install them to play them. "fbi" is the installer for the .cia files(games)
the 3ds can install and play games from a ton of plataforms, like gb, gbc, gba, and such, and of course also games for the 3ds itself like pokemon sun and moon. but it cant install games from nds
when you play games from other generations, like gba or 3ds, you can open the home menu. the 3ds is still on "normal mode", to call it something. but when you play a nds game, you cant access the home menu without rebooting the console. the 3ds is on "nds mode" there
since that "nds mode" is hard to deal with from a technical standpoint, lets just say that you have only two options to play nds games:
option 1 - buy a flashcard. im out of the loop here, so wait for someone else to recomend you one. its what i personally would recomend, if you can afford it
option 2 - look for "twilight menu", you are going to need some tutorials to get that working, but you will be able to play nds games without a flashcard

opcion 1 - comprarte una flashcard. tarjeta pirata, un cartucho de esos que tienen una ranura para microsd, no se si en argentina tambien se llamaran flashcard, pero uno de esos trastos. estoy fuera de este mundillo desde hace un tiempo, asi que esperate a que alguien mas responda a este post con una recomendacion de cual especificamente deberias comprar. es lo que yo recomendaria personalmente, si te lo puedes permitir
opcion 2 - mirate "twilight menu", vas a necesitar algunos tutoriales para poner eso en marcha pero asi podrias jugar a juegos de nds sin flashcard
