Good Morning.:)

That's a new one. What exactly are you entering into ModMii so I can try to replicate the error. Or can you send screenshots or a video or something?

Where do you have modmii saved to?

Did 6.6.1 give u the same error?

Edit: does using the default installation directory and default for copy to SD path fix it?

Does the error occur with modmii or modmii skin or both?

Tried the official 6.6.2 Release from you Page and everything is ok.
No Issues during Startup/Initializing.
Installed on C:\ModMii2021ModMii
Downloads (cIOSes/Apps/Sysmenu/IOSes etc.) works with ModMii and Modmii Skin.:)

Thanks Alex!

I suspect his issue has to do with his unique setup. While his issues may be resolved by using default settings, I'd like to solve for this so that modmii works out of the box in 99.99% cases, even if users have windows or modmii settings that are outside the norm.

I'm especially curious if 6.6.1 worked for him because of all the changes I made to support paths with special characters in 6.6.2, maybe one of these changes isn't playing nicely with his setup?

Anyway, hopefully @SG854 can provide some answers to my questions from my last post soon so I can start to troubleshoot this properly.

Im using mod mii skin.

Using windows 10 latest version

Have it installed normally no edits.

Trying to install updates to get my hack wii up to date.

Using a 2 tb hdd

It goes on a endless loop of unable to download ios (I think that's what it's called) file.

Hello,

I just tested Modmii 6.6.2 and works fine, Thanks XFlak.:yay:

Simply use the "Modmii" application.

Do not use the "Modmii installer skin " application

Try ModMii Classic; I expect that if you have issues using ModMiiSkin, you'll have the same issue with classic, but worth a short.

Can you share a screenshot of the issue? You can 'pause' the endless loop by entering "ctrl+c". Also, what are you entering exactly? If I was to try and replicate the issue, tell me what to choose starting from the main menu please.

Are you able to try 6.6.1 and tell me if you get the same issue?

If you can answer these questions maybe I can replicate the problem. Absolute worst case, I would be willing to remotely connect to your PC using teamviewer to troubleshoot - provided this is OK with you. It's far from ideal, but thankfully I don't have a lot of ModMii bug reports (just this 1 at the moment :) ) so if it's just this once I think I can manage. If we eventually go down this route we can chat privately via PMs or discord; but answer the Qs first if you can and we'll take it from there.

Both ModMii and ModMiiSkin should work (tested by myself, alexander1970, and many others). No need to warn people away from ModMiiSkin; while it doesn't have as many features as ModMii classic, the end result for their shared features should be identical. That being said, in this case it's worth trying both to see if one works where the other doesn't for some reason. Cheers my friend, you're always super helpful, please don't take this comment the wrong way :)

Just updated to the latest version and another problem occured on my PC. After installation, Avira Antivirus detected a HEUR/AGEN.1136962 virus in ModMiiSkin and moved it into the quarantine. I'm using the classic one but wanted you to inform about this "bug". There is no other bug found.

Yeah that's a false positive. You can replace modmiiskin.exe with the one from 6.6.1 if you want (assuming your anti-virus doesn't identify it as a false positive as well). The differences won't impact you 99% of the time.

Or better yet, just add your modmii folder as an exception to your antivirus

Edit: or you can launch modmiiskin.bat from Modmii's support folder

Hi, I tried using ModMii to grab a few programs that it has in the Download queues and it's worked before when I first downloaded it but now I'm trying to use it again and I can't open it. I keep getting a pop up that says "ModMii Launcher has stopped working" & "Hang on while Windows reports the problem to Microsoft."
It says the same thing with any version of ModMii. The only thing that works fine is the GUI version. And if I choose an option that requires the non GUI version to perform a task correctly, the app stops and that same message pops up again. And that is the same problem I'm having with WiiGSC & earlier versions called Crap, and Crazy Installer and other related tools. And idk why or if there's a connection to all of this. But can someone please think of anything that I could do?

Your antivirus may be preventing it from running properly. Or maybe you don't have net framework 3.5 installed? Or maybe something else about your windows environment is out of the ordinary

Edit: you can also try to launch the modmii.bat file inside the support folder

See I knew it might have to do with the .net framework thing. I just wasn't sure which one it would be cuz I did just install like a bunch of them for a different unrelated reason cuz I was trying to get something else to work and I think three of them uninstalled a few of the ones I already had cuz they wouldn't function properly with those ones installed and I'm not sure which were uninstalled. But I'm definitely gonna try to reinstall this one now. Thanks a lot!

Thank you bunches, it worked. I downloaded and installed .net framework 3.5 and then restarted my computer and tried ModMii again and it worked! You're a life saver :)

That's great!.... But odd, because I'm fairly certain a long time ago I built in a check for this, and if missing it should download and prompt users to install dot net framework 3.5.... maybe the checks aren't working any more? Or just not working for 100% of cases? In any case, I'm glad it's working now for you

Maybe it is a Mattter of the Windows Build/Version...:(

I have nothing manually installed like Framework 3 or 4 with the 20H2 (19042.928) Version from Windows 10.
It is included and activated by Default (Windows Features).

Hi everyone! Hope you're all well and safe. Even today, the Windows 10 Windows Security blocks the EXE installer from Sourceforge and Git Hub, downloaded directly. What is more curious is that when checked ModMii 6.6.1 Installer.exe there was no similar virus warning.

But ModMii 6.6.2 Installer.exe when checked with VirusTotal.com on-line checker, it reports 9 vendors flagging this as threat  However, the ZIP release does not seem blocked by Microsoft Defender... but in VirusTotal it shows as 13 (!) virus vendors flagging this as threat ! When analyzing the ZIP it's reported that ModMiiSkin.exe is mainly at fault... So not sure what's bothering the virus-scanners about this EXE? Was it UPX'ed?

Just my 5 cents of the situation today. Cheers and thank you again @XFlak ! (efharistó)

P.S. Please perhaps consider putting up a warning on the main website?

Very minor changes were made to the modmii.exe and modmiiskin.exe launchers in 6.6.2. The previous version has been unchanged for many many years.

If u recall correctly, the false positive reports of the previous version were initially much higher, then eventually this number came down as people reported it as safe and some anti-viruses updated their databases accordingly.

I could revert to the old launchers and it would work just fine in 99% of cases (so long as there are no carets in the installation path), but I've uploaded this to virus total and still 85% of antiviruses claim it is safe, so while the number has come down, it's still pretty good, and I'm hopeful that it will climb without any special intervention over time as it did last time. So please report these files as safe, so anti-virus companies can recognize this is a false positive and adjust their databases!

Kalimera @XFlak thanks for taking time to reply and explain, sure I will update the on-line virus scanners that I consider it safe so the stats start to pick up. My post was merely describing the situation, you are right, I had forgotten what happened last time, but since I used 6.6.0 to be honest I didn't follow the very latest developments closely. Thank you again for your energy and contributions!

Still to avoid people getting scared, my humble opinion would be to have some mention on your website, as it's very rare that people get stuff from either Sourceforge or Git Hub and having their stupid antivirus complain LOL. I end the talk here for this problem, no need to waste more characters or ink :D
