Former Google Stadia vice president forms new studio; working on new IP for PlayStation

Jade Raymond, who was appointed as Google Stadia's vice president back in 2019, has announced her new Montreal-based independent studio, Haven Studios. Even if it is a new studio, Raymond already revealed that they are "already hard at work on an unannounced IP" for PlayStation in PlayStation Blog post.

"We want to create worlds where players can escape, have fun, express themselves, and find community. We want to pour our passion into a project," Raymond writes. "We want to make something wondrous for people to experience. Because we believe in the power of games to bring joy to people’s lives. And Sony does, too. Their commitment to excellence is unmatched. It’s why I couldn’t be happier for their backing and support."

To recall, Jade Raymond parted ways with Google last month when Google Stadia's game development studios shut down. Previously, she worked as a manager with EA and as a producer for Assassin’s Creed while at Ubisoft.

From the sound of the announcement post, Haven may have provided jobs for a number of people working at Google when the axe fell. If that's the case, that is great to hear some folks regaining stability again so soon.

Edited to give more focus on the newly formed developer.

Lame chick who (supposedly) made first AC (the worst one), and not much else? Who and why would hire her for anything?
Hmmm the newest """AC's""" are the worst ones, the first ac was just a typical first game in a series, mechanics and etc were very primitive and they polished with the ac's that came later (ac2 through rogue).

//ontopic: lmao stadia is a train wreck.

If that's true, then that's good to hear. For one, I heard that companies would look at your resume for any games you had worked on recently that's released to the market. Since the devs didn't get a chance to release any game in Stadia (regardless if it would be good or bad), it would have been hard for them to land a job. To put it simply, Google really f'ed these devs over after laying them off.

I know it was her last position but you really did her dirty mentioning her career at Stadia instead of her former work.
Generally speaking you are only as good as your last project...
Equally if you are foolish enough to sign on to work on stadia and don't run for the hills after you hear their plans (this is to say not putting a local server farm in every city to minimise ping and the pricing format on top of that) then you probably deserve everything you get. I will hope she had to stick around to get some shares or something.

Mean, sure can't go worse than Stadia I suppose, lol.
Hey Stadia shipped a product, said product sort of vaguely resembled promises made, probably earned at least some income (nowhere near enough to offset costs but still actually earned something).

That is better than most tech projects/companies/startups I ever see/hear of/attempt to be recruited for.
