Gaming (Q): WII U worth buying for 2021 for homebrew only? (GC/WII/WII U games)

hi all,
um i recently found on amazon de a used, but good conditon wii u for cheap with console + gamepad i was wonderig if it was wroth paying money to buy it?

to use for homebrew and playing soley on gamepad (no tv).
and playing games via USB drives (intnedodont/wneogamma/wiiu loader?)

is it worth getting a wii U just for this reason?

i man some of my gc and wii games i cannot 100% play prefectly on my andriod phone in dolpihn, but on a wii u they will owkr 100% no issues asked.

eg>

metriod prime games,
zleda ss
etc

and i can also play some wii u games that are not on switch yet or might never come over like starfox zero/guard or xenoblade Chrono X for example.
the rest of the "good" wii u games are already on switch, so that is a no go for wii u.

also how big are wii u games in size? biiger than wii games?

My answer is always the best time to buy a Wii U was yesterday.

As for game sizes AAA games can get pretty big (15gb) compared to Wii games.

If it's cheap enough for you go for it. Get a decent size external hard drive with it like a 1 TB and a 32 GB sd card to install the games to the hard drive and you'll be able to add hundreds of games (you can add Wii Gamecube to the same hard drive as Wii U if you use injects). Well worth it.

Like you mentioned Xeno Chronicles X it's like 20 gb the only way to install it to an external is with a 32 gb sd card. Most games are not that big but a 16 gb sd card wont be able to install that one and a few others.

I think if you consider the few games that are exclusive to WIi U + all Wii/GC games which can't be played on Switch it makes it worth it.

Also another benefit that I was only made aware of recently (despite having a wii over 10 yrs but now sold and wii u for 3 yrs) is that when you use nintendont for gamecube games the games run better than on a native gamecube due to nintendont using wii cpu speeds rather than gamecube cpu speeds.

Youtube has a few vids on this showing increased frames on multiple titles.

A Black Wii U - If I would get one under 100 Euros,yes.

For the Wii U Games:
Not so much,but very entertaining.

For the Wii "Replacement":
Yes,it is ok.

For Emulation:
If you are familiar with Retroarch,yes,a very,very good Console.

The gamepad's range isn't amazing if that's what you'll be using exclusively, 5~6 meters in my experience

dont buy a wiiu for retroarch, its one of the worst ra experiences available (also not really any standalone emulator is available). Any laptop with dedicated gpu or past sandybridge iGpu will give you a better experience for emulating stuff

retroarch is good on andriod and ps vita for me,

i'd use the wii u for GC/wii games that don't work well on my andriod phone like prime games etc
and maybe some excl wii u games that aren't on switch ATM or might never be.

i see, but i'll have my wii u very close to my gamepad, so range won't be an issue. (wii u on my bed, and wii gamepad on my hands).

hmm, finding a relatively "cheap" wii u nowadyas is rather diffcult, but not entrely impossble, if you search carefully tho,
on amazon uk/de i searched for one that has to be:

1) lower than 200euros, i found two one for 179euro total with shipping, and one for 180euro).
2) the wii u must ship to your adress/country (if it can't there will be a "this item cannot be shipped to the selected destitanion"

i dunno why not all sellers can ship to your destination/country, but finding one that does and for a good pirce is challenging.
i'd rather get a "black" wii u instead of a white one as it looks better, plus the black is nicer estheicly and you are more foucsed on the screen the white one is kinda distracting.

im exicted to get one i hope when i get some money soon for my brithday,
also is the wii u eshop still up and running?
and for eu is brain age game free? cause the wiiuhacks guide says that if your in europe it might be free or you might have it already?

also SDXC cards will work fine for wii u? if you fomrat them to FAT32? i have a 64gb snadisk SDXC to use for it.

nice, hmm i had an ebay account many years ago (2014), both us/uk but shut them down due to not using them hardly.
i unlicke my paypal from them, but i can't -reopen open an ebay account with the email that i had used.

it might be free for EU, will have to see.

also i can launch wii/gc games from wii U mode? nintendodnt/usb loader gx fowarders? and don't need to use vwii mode?

the wii u is my favorite system. I'm playing the virtual wii at this very moment in fact. probably even better than the vita when it comes to emulation, and that's pretty hard to do.

here's an update to my wii u siutation:

but i can't seem to find/get a wii u (just the conole) for a good, cheap price (100 euros or less).
amazon uk/de seesm to have some wii u's for slae but they are all priced at high rates above 100 euroes .
and some don't even ship to my country, that sucks also along with high damn prices.

i could use ebay, but i shut it down, and opening a new one will work, but since my paypal acc uses the same email as the ebay acc that i shut down, i can't link that to a new ebay that has a diffrent email. payapl payment will not got through/have issues if the emails aren't the same?

so, real bummer for me.

but thanx for the info anwys, if i got a wii u, the info above would be helpful for use.

I was hesitant to get a WiiU until recently, that the scene has gotten up to a point that you can do -almost- everything with the console. It's the perfect substitute for a Wii without any doubt.

If you can find one go for it, they're getting very rare to get by at a good price, and most of the time they are damaged or not working at all.

I've got mine less than a month ago, for about $70 USD, including a 1 TB hard drive, so yes, it is already modded and beside the charger for the gamepad -which is damaged, but easily fixable- everything works great.

I'm planning on getting another and willing to pay $100 USD max, but if I find one cheaper and in great working condition I'll get it for sure, I'm searching online.

Just be aware that you probably can't use it on the toilet, for me the gamepad signal goes out halfway between the door and the toilet

Most of that is not homebrew
NeoGamma is trash, you'll want to use WiiFlow, USB Loader GX, or just straight WiiVC injects (that allows you to use one drive for both Wii/GC and Wii U)
Wii U mode doesn't use a loader per se, just Haxchi or CBHC, the games are installed straight to the Wii U menu.

It's safe to update, Nintendo doesn't even try to block exploits on the Wii U anymore. Not that they ever did.
I don't block updates on Wii U, there's no point.

im assuming you have a set budget that the Switch dosent fit into? because for emulation wise the nintendo switch is one of the best portable emulation machines i had,(not to setup though) but the switch with a little knowhow can play EVERYTHING nintendo related under it (and others with work) even 3ds emulation is coming along on on it. if its SOLELY for emulation consider getting a Banned switch, its a bit cheaper

I got a Wii U last month, and I am enjoying it. I easily installed Coldboot Haxchi and everything works perfectly. Playing Melee on it feels weird, but cool.
