EA walks back choice to make new Dragon Age have online, "allows" BioWare to keep it single-player

EA and BioWare haven't been having a good time as of late. The latter just announced that they were canning plans on their overhaul to Anthem over trying to better focus on their upcoming games such as Dragon Age. Bloomberg reporter and industry insider Jason Schreier added to the news by claiming the new Dragon Age wasn't initially going to be like the ones before it, and would have had games as a service (GaaS) elements and online multiplayer. Schreier said that decision was walked back after the success of the single-player Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order from EA, and that the publisher "allowed" BioWare to make the next Dragon Age a regular single-player RPG after seeing that those types of games could perform well. It also appears that the development team itself was mixed on what direction they wanted to take Dragon Age in, with some split over actually wanting to include those GaaS multiplayer features, while others adamantly did not.

It only took them, what, a decade to figure this out?

Still not buying a game branded with EA on it though!
I tend to separate the games from the publishers. A good game is a good game, regardless of the logo on the box, and EA did release a couple of good bangers recently, including Fallen Order.

It certainly makes gaming feel like work. You have to do your dailies or you'll fall behind, and God forbid, you don't want to fall behind or you're effectively a nooblet again and may as well put it down.
This resonates with me too well. Fortnite's current season (Chapter 2, Season 5) is the most atrocious thing I've ever experienced in my entire life, and I've decided to take a break from the game until it's over, 'cause I hate it in its current state. I'm hopeful about next season, hoping they can bring back what made the game fun, but also fearful that these few weeks I'm not playing the game will make me miss out on content, or practice to bolster my skill, or some new, wild experience I'll never get to have. Yet simultaneously, I'm having more fun playing Spellbreak, and now I'm kind of forced to make a choice on which I want to be my "main" multiplayer game, which I want to sink all the time into, because balancing practicing, getting season/chapter rewards, scheduling play times with friends, and work, writing/recording music, doing things around the house, etc, it becomes a nightmare when you introduce too many factors, not to mention that it can be confusing trying to improve in two games at once when they feel subconsciously similar.

Listen, if you are under duress, held against your will or otherwise coerced to play Fortnite, blink twice. We can help you, but you have to help us first.
