Gaming Which Wii accessories should I buy ?

I ordered a used Wii from eBay yesterday...it only comes with a Wii remote and a nunchuck. So I want to buy the following accessories:

(1) GC controllers: Should I buy 3rd party GC controllers ? The original ones are quite expensive...Is there a cheap 3rd party one that is durable ?

(2) Classic pro Controllers: what are my options here?

(3) Wii remote with motion plus: Are 3rd party remotes good ?


Can all Wii games that require the classic controller be played with a GC controller perfectly ? should I get the classic pro or GC controller or both ?

Using Nintendont, you can play Gamecube games with either a Classic Controller, a Classic Controller Pro, a Gamecube controller, or a USB controller. You can even use a Nunchuck and Wiimote. So you don't really need a Gamecube controller at all. I would recommend getting the Classic Controller Pro, as it has all the buttons needed (unlike the plain Classic Controller) and you can play far away from the console (unlike the wired Gamecube controller).

In my experience, third-party hardware is usually of low quality. I won't buy it anymore. Although I guess third-party zappers or wheels should be OK; it's hard to see how those can be screwed up, since they are literally just molded plastic.

I recently bought the MotionPlus, and to be honest, I'm not sure it was worth it. There aren't that many games that use it. Of the ones that do... Wii Sports Resort is OK, but overrated. Grand Slam Tennis is OK, but I'm not that into tennis. I haven't tried Conduit 2, Skyward Sword, or Red Steel 2 yet; maybe those will change my mind. There are a few dozen other MotionPlus-using games that don't really come recommended by anyone. So three, maybe four games total that might justify the MotionPlus.

I want to play GC games though Ninetndont...so I am going to need GC controllers...
I will also buy one classic pro since some games in Wii need it...

My understanding is that an original controller even if it is used lasts longer than say 10 fake controllers...so I am going for the originals...

But I'm saying, if you use Nintendont, it will let you play Gamecube games without a Gamecube controller. The Classic Controller Pro works perfectly for Gamecube games. There's no reason to buy a Gamecube controller, unless you prefer it to the Classic or Classic Pro.

Do I have to mess with any settings if I am playing GC games through Nintendont with a classic pro ?

You think it is a better investment if I bought classic pro controllers over GC controller ? So I am better off buying 3 classic pros instead of two GC controllers+one classic pro ?

1. Originals are the most durable ones. There's no such thing as third party controllers that can compare with first party ones.

2. Classic Pro would be a good option, but the non Pro version has analog left/right triggers which the Pro doesn't. It all depends on personal preferences.

3. Read my answer to point (1.).

There are some good third party controllers but for the price they're sold, I'd go for original ones instead, even secondhand one's work better.

3rd party Wii Remotes are trash, the motion controls hardly work at all in my experience, they might be OK for simple games that don't use motion controls.
There are some decent 3rd party Classic Controllers, but they can cause homebrew to glitch out or crash for some reason.
There are some decent 3rd party GC controllers, but nothing as good as the originals, or as durable (especially important for avid Smash players)

Are you sure the Wii you purchased has GC ports on top? Because the later models didn't to reduce costs.

With regards to Wiimotes and Wii Motion Plus, absolutely do not buy any third party controllers. They are all trash. No fake controller ever matched the quality and reliability of the Nintendo ones. And unless you really like the GC controller, just get the Nintendo Classic Controller Pro. I use it with Nintendont on all GC games and have never owned a GC controller in spite of having one of the original Wiis that support them (I do proudly have the GC Donkey Konga Bongos, however). Using Nintendont, you can even use Sony DualShock controllers with GC games.

Wii Sports Resort is not overrated, by the way. There's a reason it is the third best selling Wii game of all time behind only Mario Kart and Wii Sports itself. If you just want to sit on your ass and button-mash all day, then the Wii is not the ideal console for you, and Wii Sports (and Wii Sports Resort) are a waste of your time. If you want to finally experience what the most unique console of this century has to offer, you'll get at least one Motion Plus wiimote and a Wii Balance Board (they sold 24 million of them!) and get titles like Just Dance, some of the fitness titles, and Grand Slam Tennis. The Wii would have been an absolute failure if it had just been a slightly more powerful GC (which is all it was) with a standard, non-motion controller. It's a waste to even own a Wii if you aren't going to wave a Wiimote around like a fool like the rest of us did for more than a decade with big smiles on our faces.

The OEM looking knockoff GC controllers you see around have the worst quality sticks, and there don't seem to be many other options for 3rd party GC controllers.

Should I buy the ones you mentioned or the OEM(used) ones ? i have heard there are incompatibilities when using non OEM controllers with Wiiflow and Nintendont...

Yup, as I mentioned in my first post, 3rd party classic controllers seem to have a lot of issues with homebrew. It might not apply to all of them, those might work just fine, but the only way to know is to try, unless you find someone else that has one who can confirm if it works or not.
Even if it turns out it doesn't work with homebrew, you can still use it as a Classic Controller in Wii games, so it wouldn't be a complete waste.
