Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space is a game about saving the world through time travel, features a cat, bills itself as a spiritual successor to Chrono Trigger, and even boasts the talent of Chrono Trigger's writer and composer, all whilst being a JRPG free-to-play mobile game. There's a lot to unpack, there. The game has confirmed that it will be headed west again, but instead of mobile platforms, this time it'll be on PC, with a release set for Spring 2021 on Steam.

As for the content of the game, Another Eden originally launched on mobile in Japan in 2017 and later received a localization on Android and iOS two years later. It's a gacha game, meaning it's free-to-play, but features in-app purchases in order for players to obtain new characters. Though it may have microtransactions, Another Eden is a single-player game and maintains that it has a focus on its narrative first and foremost, of which is being penned by Masato Kato, of Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy VII, and Xenogears fame. That's not the only talent from Chrono Trigger working on the game, either, as composer Yasunori Mitsuda is handling the soundtrack to Another Eden as well, having created over 60 songs so far for it.

A Nintendo Switch version of the game is also in the works, though it has no release window at this time. A Steam page for the game is currently available, and those that wishlist the game prior to release will receive a bonus character for doing so upon the game's launch. As a note, it will not be released in Belgium due to the country's stance on gacha games.

Embark on a journey beyond time and space.
To save our lost future.
Before the darkness of time falls upon us all...

Scenario: Masato Kato
Main Theme: Yasunori Mitsuda
Acclaimed creators from a number of well-known and popular series have come together to bring an exciting and epic RPG.

The amount of people who speak with authority on something they know nothing about. As someone who has actually played the damn game; let me give you some insight.

1. Another Eden has one of the best written stories and character interaction I've played not only in a gacha game but in video games in general. The story starts off strong and a few of the plot twist I didn't see coming.

2. The game is VERY well balanced. You can beat Arc 1 and only really have to go out your way to grind towards the very end of it.

3. Permanent events. Most gacha games have limited time events, not here the Persona 5 event; both of them you can still play through.

4. The only real issue I have with it is that late game grinding sucks due to no auto and shit tier drop rates for materials you need.

I just wish they actually worked in a proper Chrono Trigger remake.

A remake, true sequel, or at least some sort of spiritual successor with some of the key creators would be nice, although I guess that didn't work out so well for Sands of Destruction. Chrono Cross was not it either.

TBH, Another Eden is nice. Very well-made, it's story is interesting and Cyrus (the Frog) is a cool character. Besides being (obviously) a gacha, it's rates aren't as atrocious as examples like Fate Grand Order, Genshin Impact and Rockman X Dive.

Liked your post because I agree, but taking the time to reply just to say that's the coolest forum avatar of zero I've ever seen. **X/Zero/ZX big time fan high five**

Just clarifying, that's not Zero. Her name is Ray, she's from Mighty Number 9. She's basically MN9's Blues/Protoman equivalent.

I am someone that played this for a while and I can say AE is VERY different of other gacha games, because:

1: you don't need the gacha element. The free characters are VERY strong and can beat all content with proper strategy. I use free chars (from the "Tales of" collab) in the latest superbosses)

2: The story is very good. Much better than MANY console games

3: the music is AWESOME and sometimes I Just enter some specific fights just to hear It.

4: It doesn't force you to play all the time like other gacha games because no events are time limited. They stay for good.

I really recommend this one. Put on your wishlist in Steam and give it a try. Sands of Destruction was very meh but this one is worth the time

Hey, I've been playing this since US release, only gotcha I play, you really don't need to spend money as you get so many free pulls throughout the year as long as you check in daily. (That that the non-free characters are mandatory anyway)

Damn I think I want this, but on the Chrono Trigger sorta vibe, this was a quick min pledge for me. I'm seriously waiting for this Sea Of Stars. It's tied to the Messenger/Ninja Gaiden and somewhat seems like Chrono Trigger with its story sort of which is kinda dope. This is probably as close as your going to get to a 3rd Chrono. Don't sleep on this one guys. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sabotagestudio/sea-of-stars?ref=discovery&term=Sea Of Stars I want this too, but this Sea Of Stars is what I'm def looking forward to. Look who the musics produced by.Same dude that did Chrono Trigger.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
