The once PlayStation exclusive Days Gone heads to PC

The president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan, has lots to share about the future of PlayStation. In a freshly published interview with GQ, the man behind SIE confirmed that just as Horizon Zero Dawn did, another PlayStation exclusive title would be making its way to PC, among a “slate” of other games in the future. Days Gone will be headed to the PC platform “later this Spring”. PlayStation has found success with their first game being brought over to a new subset of players, and as Ryan says, “there’s a opportunity to expose these great games to a wider audience”.

Fair enough. So releasing PlayStation games on PC was something that Sony PlayStation held back on for a long time. Now it sounds like you’re very much on that bandwagon. What changed?

I think a few things changed. We find ourselves now in early 2021 with our development studios and the games that they make in better shape than they’ve ever been before. Particularly from the latter half of the PS4 cycle our studios made some wonderful, great games. There’s an opportunity to expose those great games to a wider audience and recognise the economics of game development, which are not always straightforward. The cost of making games goes up with each cycle, as the calibre of the IP has improved. Also, our ease of making it available to non-console owners has grown. So it’s a fairly straightforward decision for us to make.

No reason to Buy Sony consoles they cant even manage to hold exclusives

When they put Spider-man, Uncharted, Last of Us, Ratchet & Clank, God of War, Gran Turismo on PC you're right. Until then, no.

How is this game? I remember it getting kind of mixed reception on PS4.

I'd say slightly above average. Not as bad as reviews say.

After all the patches it's pretty damn solid. I actually felt compelled to wrap up nearly every side quest in the game which is rare for me in open-world games likes these. The plot isn't all that but the character writing+voice direction is excellent and it isn't constant Marvel movie-style quipping like you get in Uncharted.

As someone who stepped away from all non-Nintendo consoles last generation, I'm excited for the opportunity to play some of these Playstation games I missed out on!

Well so far there's two, Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone. There could be more, or not. Nobody knows. But they'll always be a couple of years old not new when they port them. Which honestly the age doesn't matter really because if you've never played it it's new.

Just another zombi crap, the developer were capable of much better

Yeah I've beaten almost every one of their games I beat all the Syphon Filters except Omega Strain and I beat Resistance Retribution on PSP which I really liked and Uncharted Golden Abyss on Vita. I haven't beaten Days Gone and my PS4 that's on legit firmware's HDMI port is dead so I would to start over on my CFW PS4 or I could wait for this PC version.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
