Hacking Reflash Xbox 360 drive

It appears that I'm in an unusual situation, so I'm asking for help here.

I have an old xbox 360 that was flashed with an old firmware. I didn't flash it myself, so I don't know which version it has and, most importantly, I don't have any kind of key for the drive.
I know it must have an old firmware, because any stealth patched game I burn, fails to run. I'm interested in running a particular Wave 4 game, and it always fails to run. ABGX360 checks are all green, but when I insert the disc, I get a "Play DVD" message and it starts playing the xbox logo video, as if it were a dvd video disk. I have other old burned games lying around that run fine (Forza Motorsport 3, for example).
I am using Verbatim and I'm even using the famous ihas 624B burner. Nothing seems to work.
It seems I could try wave pathing the iso for wave 3 or wave 2, but then I would be missing on the newer games, like any xgd3 game. Is this accurate?

So I started to investigate on how to reflash it with newer firmware. However, the official jungler flasher guide, even though it is very complete, seems to not contemplate my scenario exactly.

I know I have a Philips Lite-on DG-16D2S on a Phat Xbox 360 and it is running Dashboard 2.0.8955.0. This is all I know.

Do I need special hardware? Does having an already flashed drive give me any advantage over having a stock firmware drive or should I just follow the guide as if I had stock firmware?
Basically, I'm a bit lost on the jungle flasher guide.

Yea seems like it flashed with older fw that's not wave 4/ xgd3. As far as I know, if you don't have the original key for that dvd drive, you can't reflash it just with pc.. Using a tool like X360USBPRO you can pull the key from the drive, then reflash it with newer custom FW. I could be wrong tho, been a long time. But no it's not considered Stock drive anymore, look for updating CFW drive in Jungle flasher docs.

Nope I was wrong, you can still update that drive even tho it has CFW on it, just need to make sure you get the keys to the dvd drive first, then do it again several times to make sure the keys are the same and save to pc...read thru Jungle flasher docs, yes follow it like its Stock drive, then you can flash any new CFW ex: itreme , there are several ways to get the keys, and several external tools you can buy to help also....I prefer and use X360USBPRO from team executer. Don't update, that's the worst thing you can do.

You'll have to flash your stock firmware back or dump the hacked firmware and spoof the keys to a stock pre-13599 firmware and then update.

If you lack the tools to do it yourself, you could send the 360 to me.
I can reflash and update it for you and send it back.
Done it before for many tempers.

Depending on the drive firmware, it may be possible to redump the key using just sata/jungleflasher.

I know once upon a time I’d redump my key every time I was upgrading it as a precaution.

However, I can’t remember if newer firmware stopped this.

The early days required users to flash a updated firmware after dash updates.
13599 introduced new drive firmwares, all drives from 360's at the time where updated to support the newer XGD3.
C4eva's answer to that was the LT firmwares, after that there hasn't been any update anymore to them and MS kinda stopped caring about the 360.

According to the JungleFlasher guide, depending on my drive's firmware, I might be able to do this without any special hardware as @tech3475 mentioned. Particularly the 83850c v1 firmware.
I guess I should try that first.

If jungleflasher fails to identify that firmware, then it means that the firmware is not 83850c v1 and that I will need special hardware (or some kind of trickery like "pogo mo thoin"), according to JF guide.

As far as special hardware is concerned, seems like X360 USB pro is indeed the way to go.

Would the following product from AliExpress definitely do the trick (sorry, can't post links)?

You can tell make by removing faceplate and model sometimes by the disc tray when it's out. Use that info with jungleflasher.

I already did that. I have a Philips Lite-on DG-16D2S.

The thing is that there are many different Philips Lite-on DG-16D2S with different FW versions. As far as I know, you can only tell them apart by connecting to JF and seeing the FW version if it appears there. I'm going to try my luck.

Your drive won't have iXTreme FW on it tho, I don't think or else would have worked on wave 3-4 and XDG3 games. Prob is older LTPlus...no harm in trying to get your keys first tho...and if you get that far, it may say what FW is on it inside jungleflasher...

I noticed that on the drive itself, someone has handwritten the text "1.6 II" on it.
Could this be a clue from the original flasher with which firmware that was flashed?

I don't see that number combo in the FW packs, so who knows what that means
Edit: No wait I do see a IXtreme 1.6 fw, but its for Samsung drive

I do believe @DinohScene is correct though.... You should research it more before you reflash. It's been so long since I've done one so I'm not the best person to ask, but @DinohScene is.

What would be his best Method of Operation then? How should he go about reflashing it? Please help with recommendations because I'm so out of the XBOX360 realm anymore. Thanks.

@Spandaman what do you mean by "do not try and spoof"?

If jungle flasher should recognize the drive that is already flashed, doesn't that mean I should try to flash it?

Also, you seem to know which firmware is this 1.6. Is it an iXtreme firmware?

In any case, I was mostly trying to have jungle flasher running for now.
Jungle Flasher in windows 10 is not an easy feat.
No matter what I try, the error about not being able to load portio64.sys persists.
Tried a bunch of methods to disable driver signing, but nothing yet.
I should be able to get this running eventually.

Don't spoof drives.
Both Jungleflasher and XGD3 challenges won't work correctly and it will get you flagged for a ban.

Just dump the keys and spoof it to a stock firmware.
Flash the drive and put it back in the 360, update it and then take the drive out, spoof your keys to LT+ 3.0 and flash that to the drive.

If possible, get Win XP 32 bit installed or Win 7.
You can try a virtual machine but idk if it works with VIA cards or compatible SATA chipsets on motherboards.
Me offer for reflashing still stands, only costs are shipping it to and back from me.

I think it's 13599 that reflashes the drive if memory serves me right. I have a flashed jasper that is like on 12xxx, so I haven't reflashed the drive for it. it will probably never be reflashed, since I use one of my jtags, and I don't even really play the system anymore. I noticed that I'm near the end of blue dragon, but I don't remember much about it. I remember playing it, just not going through the whole game. lol
