HI All,

As title - sometimes the fan goes craxy or the PS4 is very loud. I bought it 2nd hand and its on 6.72.

Looking to change the HDD (another thread), but whats a easy quick fire way to clean it.

Is it a case of dismantle the whole thing or a air can can do the job.

OR

Do I need to change the thermal paste (which would mean a dismantle).

Best guide or link will do - really uneasy on which method is the most safe, since I managed to track a PS4, which I ahve 6.72 working on it.

Cheers

Do a favor yourself and get down to the heatsink and clean both the heatsink and the fan throughly. The air itself will have only temporary to no effect to your issue.

Top man, I think it will be best to get it all dismantled and see whats going on. Hopefully, like you say a good clean out is needed.

cheers

99% sure about this. Also don't forget to replace the thermal paste and any teared off RAM thermal pads.

I always recommend high perfomance thermal paste non-conductive.

the original phat ps4's thermal paste is dried out. it was not even applied properly at the factory.
you have to change the thernal paste. recommended thermal paste is thermal grizzly kryonaut.

Pulled out my ArctiClean bottle 1 and 2 solutions and had a new Arctic MX-4 compund turn up the other day (for my future pc upgrade).

if its all going to get cleaned, I might as well get the Thermal done.

Cheers again, looks like a full job!

Update, dismantle the ps4, down to taking the fan out and dusting it all.

Was some dust in the fan and the heatsink after a good clean and blow out - fully clean.

Then took out the old paste was was all over the place and was spread past the cpu.

Cleaned it all and had to toothpick some bits which were stuck on the outer square of the cpu.

In the end clean it best I could to clean and then applied new paste and reassembled it.

Did notice there was 3 or 4 screws missing, so now know that the previous owner most likely did not do a good job putting it back after the time he must of cleaned it!

Anyway, leaving it overnight to settle and will boot up in the morning.

you can replace the screws, the screws may help the heatsinks hit the chips. I know it can be that way with the 360 anyway. when I bought my used ps3 to replace my banned one, the hdd caddie had no screws, so I bought some just for it. you can probably find replacement screws just the right size on ebay or at hardware store. though, sometimes with torx (if that's what's missing), it can be hard to find outside of ebay, especially if it's a weird gauge like 00.

Was a little surprise when i saw the screws missing - those really big one are missing which is a pain.

but if if it fires up tomorrow without any probs, I will leave it, worse case, I might look for a broken ps4 and use it as spare parts

the 360 has long torx screws as well, at least the phat does. those are the only screws you have to remove to get to the motherboard beyond the rf board's three screws. the metal casing has several small screws, but you only have to remove the long screws to get at the board.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I was going to leave it as is with my ps3 too, because the hdd wasn't going to move anywhere, but I wanted that piece of mind, so I bought the screws anyway. I managed to get the screws without a hard drive caddie for cheaper, since most hdd caddie screws come with a caddie replacement as well.

@RedColoredStars, I did read the last sentence in your post by the way. Maybe try changing the privacy settings in your browser to standard if that works.

Thing is , the videos work fine in the Edge Dev and Canary builds. But whatever the fix they made was, has never been pushed to Beta or Stable builds. Its been that way for as far back as I tested. Which was Edge 84. They are on 125 now.

@RedColoredStars, Yeah, and I was in quite a mood at that time. I would consider choosing Firefox or Opera instead, been using Firefox for over 7 years now than Chrome.
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
Tried contacting Nintendo to see if they can reach out to MS about it. But Nintendo said the videos are working fine. Without enough people saying no, they don't work fine, it will never get fixed.

I have Firefox and used it for many years. But Edge runs noticible faster on my pc at both opening and loading pages.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
I don't think Nintendo will know anything about troubleshooting Edge. They mostly do technical support regarding their console family.
