Nintendo is facing yet another class action lawsuit over Joy-Con drift

Nintendo is facing yet another legal fight over the Switch's Joy-Cons. After dealing with filings in both Europe and the United States, it's now Canada's turn. Lambert Avocat is a Quebec law firm that has just filed a class-action lawsuit against Nintendo over Joy-Con drift, claiming that the defect goes against the Consumer Protection Act. Joy-Con drift continues to be a rampant issue for the company, which is in the midst of multiple lawsuits regarding the controllers, in Washington and Illinois, where cases have headed to arbitration, as well as France and the UK. Currently, this latest case is awaiting approval from the court, and if it moves on, the class action lawsuit hopes to obtain compensation for affected users.

The « Joy-Con Drift » constitutes an important, serious and hidden defect, because:

  • the consumers wouldn’t have brought the defective gaming systems or controllers or wouldn’t have paid such high price, had they known their reduced product lifespan because of the defect;
  • the defect prevents the products in performing a function for which they were bought for and causes inconvenience to consumers;
  • the defect was not revealed by Nintendo;
  • the consumers were not able to detect the default through an ordinary examination of the products.

I rather just use a wired controller... I never experienced drift issues with my switch. Let’s not forget the aggressive players who like to hard mash their buttons or drop their joycons.

I used to mock Nintendo for the dock of it wasn’t essential but I ended up only playing my large switch on the dock. I keep my switch lite portable and never experienced drift

I'm kinda proud to hear Nintendo dealt with filings in Europe, at least we don't feel ignored lol

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

They deserve it, both my launch joycons are unusable.
I think it's normal after almost 4 years, bruh

Got 4 joycons, one I had sent (the left blue, got it on launch day) because of the bluetooth range stuff but also because of drift (and also it would detach from my console with just a bit of force, not reliable at all), anyway they fixed that .... except I still had to replace the joystick by myself.
Out of all 4 joycons I have, everyone had this problem. I had to replace every single joystick, because of course I'm out of warranty and I don't know if Nintendo France will repair this for free or not, so fuck it I did it myself and replaced the shells to have something cooler.
But f u Nintendo

It's absolutely not lmao, in what world you live where everything you get last only less than 4 years ?
Those joycons are expensive af, they should last way longer than that

You are being stupid at this point.

Joycons should last longer. Period.
What if you get people to play with you ? You joycons are unusable and they watch you play. Great stuff. You pay 80€ for something that can't last longer than 4 years (and breaks waaaaaay faster than 4 years) and there are people like you to defend this kind of practice smh

Nintnedo just can't catch a break. I'd hate to be them right now.

Catch a break? They're intentionally selling faulty equipment, very happily to tens of millions of users, hundreds of millions over the consoles life.

It's far beyond disgusting that they continue, in full knowledge that they are faulty by design.

You shouldn't have to send your equipment off every few month for repair, then after that be stuck with faulty equipment.

The build quality is terrible over previous generations of hardware, seems to be a growing trend with Nintendo, they once set the bar in quality.

Joy-cons are pretty shit. Far cry from Wii Controllers. I love those.
It's a shame too, all of Nintendo's old controllers were as sturdy as a brick (except for N64 joysticks.)
I've abused my Wiimotes and nunchucks countless times and they still work just as well as they did 11 years ago. For comparison, I've only used my Joy-Cons for around ~200 hours in the past 3 years and I've already had to repair them because of drift. They're just way too fragile and flimsy as a Nintendo product.

what exactly is joy con drift? if you mean the controllers moving by themselves because they lean to one side, I've never personally encountered this issue.

1: I don't use Joy-Cons
2: I don't play local multiplayer
Seriously, you should stop putting me in these "what-if scenarios"

Then this shouldn't concern you. Which means you're here for no reason other than to be a nuisance.

There is no need to be rude at anyone so I plead y'all to be nice to others, please.

Shameless company that actively harms consumers... they just need to get sentenced for spending so many years postponing this to the point of releasing a revision of the console (red box with extended battery life) and not fixing a day-1 issue years after the fact.

Note: I am on my 4th JoyCon. No, I am not aggressive, I am the opposite, I treat them extremely carefully after the first one broke. There are dozens of videos on Youtube explaining why this is not the consumer's fault, it has to do with cheap parts that deteriorate very fast and become powdery being used to track thumbstick motion.
