Well, finally we have Xbox Series S gameplays, until then Microsoft was very reserved about this console, we almost had no game videos running on it and the whole focus was on Series X. Well, now we finally have videos showing the console in practice, I thought it was weird... so far most games seem to be running better on One X than on Series S.

Watch Dogs: Legion

Possibly where the difference was most noticeable for me, the Series S version has ray-tracing (with a low quality, but it's there), but in all other aspects like resolution, shadows, draw-distance, textures and etc... he looks worse than One X lol

Call of Duty Warzone

The difference this time is less than in the case of the Watch Dogs Legion, but it is possible to note that the Xbox One X runs at a higher resolution than the Series S and still manages to have slightly better textures and draw-distance.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla

In this case the Series S managed to have the same dynamic resolution as the One X, but the draw distance of the One X is still slightly better and different from the Series X version the Series S runs at just 60fps ...

Anyway... what the hell is going on ?, I expected it to be at least superior to One X, that it just ran the same Series X games at a lower resolution

I wouldnt say the one x is running games better, but they are balanced completely differently. One x had a weak cpu and beefed up gpu, series s has a much better cpu but a gpu designed for 1440p or I guess 1080p depending on game. So on games that are not cpu bound the one x will look good. I also want to note people getting a series s arent likely coming from the one x, they are coming from the one s. The one x was also $499.

A little more detail, the one x has more fast vram than the series s, even if the series s is faster it wont handle higher resolutions as well. If this bothers you, get the series x or a ps5.

So... apparently the Xbox Series S is running Hitman 3 worse than the Playstation 4 Pro.

I took this image on Facebook and apparently it is from the Digital Foundry video, it is surprising and at the same time disappointing.

Both seem to run 1080p/50-60 though, just with slightly lower shadow quality for the latter, so I don't see any debilitating difference. Also, a lot of it is up to individual optimization of the games for different hardware - it should be kept in mind that Hitman 3 was in development before newer consoles hit the market, so it's not unrealistic for it to be more well-fit for older consoles it was initially made for (I mean, even on XBox S/X it's basically an XBO game that runs through backwards compatibility).

In general, we're yet to see how hardware holds up when it comes to dedicated heavy-hitters. The Medium (a game that can't realistically run well on PS4 Pro) is coming up in less than a week, so that will be a decent benchmark for Series S as a current-gen system.

The point of the XSS is to play "next-gen" games. If the game isn't optimized for Xbox Series, it will run significantly worse than the One X, that's by design.
