I looked through the instructions and noticed I need Cthulhu and Faketik, but I don’t have either. Should I still try?

also, found a picture of what my system looked like before it stopped working.

Holy smokes. That doesn't look good at all. I have a feeling you're not going to be able to fix that by software solutions.

One might conclude your n3DSXL has broken LCDs, except for the fact that there aren't signs of cracked glass & black ink splotches and that both have angled distortion in the upper-right corner. The top screen also has well defined borders (side black bars).

Try the CTRTransfer (Type D9) to know for sure this is a write-off. The instructions has download links to all the files/apps.

Went through your guide with no problem until step 11. My luma config menu seems to be more up to date and It doesn’t look like I can set it up like the example. What should I do?

No problem with that. Indeed, you should have now the latest Luma version (10.2.1) on your console:
https://github.com/LumaTeam/Luma3DS/releases/latest

Download the zip and extract both files inside on the root of your console SD card.

I applied the update and did as the guide said but nothings happening when i press start. Looking closely i noticed that as soon as I would press start both screens would just shut off and nothing would happen. Also, GM9 doesn't start up if i hold start when powering up anymore

Revisit step 5, bulletin (3) to download the latest versions of those files and replace them on the SD card.

As you have noticed, the Instructions has some outdated info. Sorry about that. I intend to refresh the write-up in the about page to coincide with a v2.0 release of that script some time later next year.

He's dead, Jim. :(

Where to go from here,
  • Sell the dead n3DSXL for parts as-is; recuperate some of your money.
  • Buy a replacement motherboard for a swap job repair.
  • Get another n3DSXL, n3DS, n2DSXL, etc.
  • Tight on money? Play 3DS games on Citra emulator.

Oh well, i thought it was too big anyway. I was thinking of just getting a regular sized New 3DS as a replacement, too. So if i was to get a New N3DS would i be able to restore it with everything from my dead one?

Ok, been thinking it over and I'd rather just start fresh with the CFW. Is there a method of just transferring save files?
Normal way is using some save manager type homebrew (like JKSM or Checkpoint) on both consoles. But, having in account that you actually have a dead console, IDK.

Wait for another answer
