VA-11 Hall-A sequel N1RV Ann-A delayed indefinitely

With 2020 winding down, there's not much time left for games to meet their 2020 release window. Sukeban Games, developer of VA-11 Hall-A, realizing this has decided to delay their sequel to the aforementioned game, N1RV Ann-A. Previously scheduled for a launch in sometime 2020, N1RV Ann-A no longer has a release timeframe and has been pushed back indefinitely, with Sukeban Games stating that creative differences were the reason behind the delay. In the meantime, the studio will be focusing on working on and marketing their other games instead, until N1RV Ann-A is closer to completion.

The first falling of the delays fall squarely on my field. When N1RV Ann-A started production back in 2017 as the framework for another unrelated project that also needed a lot of text to be processed, it was still Kiririn and I handling things, so we kept work as we did during the VA-11 Hall-A days. As time went on and a lot of life-changing events happened I refused to relent control of the code even though we now had extra hands programming to help us with everything. The result was that I was heavily burned out while still insisting on being the sole programmer, the progress was really slow at this stage as a result.

How slow you ask? When I finally relented control of the code for the game to be rebuilt from scratch at the beginning of 2020 our programmer was able to rebuild everything I had done up till that point through explanations in about a month or less. With another month he was able to add a lot of missing features I outlined but wasn’t able to code in a timely manner.

With this you might be wondering why we didn’t make any faster progress. After all, if the framework was ready you just had to put stories in it. And the answer to that is creative differences. Thanks to circumstances I won’t go into detail here, there was an internal conflict on how the story should go. Ironing out those problems took time but the end result is a version of the story far better than anything we had previously envisioned.

"stating that creative differences were the reason behind the delay" sounds like one wants to go with jerk-off material while the other party wants to go with the opposite. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case. Degeneracy sells after all, just look at any LARPer (I'm not referring to larping per say but what it actually entices), i.e running over people in GTA then doing the same IRL because potato, that is LARPing in a sense, regardless if you like it nor not.

edit: A quick look at either twitter profiles kinda speaks for itself.

Maybe I'll try this Va-11-hall-a game sometime (As long as I don't have to keep typing the game name)

It is a game right? It says "action" in the title. Cyber punk bartender action. Is not a visual novel? Someone more experienced maybe can compare it to something more familiar? :ninja:
Kinda like a visual novel, it’s like coffe talk (if you’ve played that) but with visual novel elements

From what little I played, it is so far. Some of the music makes me think there might be some sort of action-ey parts within, but I've yet to make it that far.

So is actually a game then. Not a glorified book or movie? I get to do stuff and my actions have consequences? Cause that's what I call a game. Other wise, is just a story narrative that you read or watch, which isn't a game, it's a visual novel.

Yeah, you can give people the wrong drinks or extra alcohol and that'll change how events play out (and the secondary characters endings). There's also a bit of money management thrown in that effects your ending, but it is still pretty visual novely.

Sounds like a hard game, but I mean if you don't mess up drinks then shouldn't have to put up with money management too much. Not too much of a fan with management.. not too much say like a rpg with a few party members but maybe something more like fire emblem with many of them and various stuff to worry about.... and resident evil "Survival horror" management. :ninja:

It isn't that bad or intense. If anything, the game has an in-game manual telling you how to mix this drink or that drink, and there's times where it hints at you to make certain drinks that could affect how the story plays out.

Granted, I only played, like, the first night, but I blame that more on me trying to switch to Linux on my main machine and having...problems that prevented me from switching over wholesale. It's so close, yet so far. :/
