podcast_art_banner_smol-png.222446

This week we discuss a variety of topics from the gaming world, including Fortnite's new subscription service, Sony banning PS5's for what seems to be digital fraud, scalpers ruining the day for everybody, as well as the first PS5 game dumps. Within these topics we also discuss the importance of physical media and the possible future of PS5 hacking. Finally, we finish off with our reactions to the NEO: TWEWY announcement, and the sad news of Super Mario Maker Wii U being shut down in early 2021.

The trick to deal with scalper is to keep releasing more and more product. Sadly its not possible when product availability is limited by the actual production process.
But in the case of limited items, if it sells out you make more and more until it doesn't sell out. This way everyone that wants it can get it and scalpers are stuck with bunch of extra that no1 wants anymore which they will have to sell at a loss while the company makes more money in the process!

When we begin discussing the PS5 console bans at around the 17:45 mark (essentially, people are using workarounds to get the PS+ collection playable on the PS4 in a way that violates Sony's Terms of Service) I mention that a console ban on a digital only PS5 spells doom because of the fact that a console ban locks you out of the internet and digital content.

What I didn't address is the fact that it would likely have a huge impact even if you're buying your games physically. Unless I'm speaking out my ass because @relauby isn't fact checking me--a triple-layer Ultra HD Blu-ray can store just 100 GB when used for gaming. There are lots of physical games out there that are over 100 GB (looking at you CoD). Because you have to install every game that you play--whether digital or physical--on your PS5 you'll likely need an internet connection to download at least portions of games that are over 100 GB. You won't be able to do this if your console is banned.

TL;DR don't charge people to link their PS4 account to your PS5 in a way that unlocks the PS+ collection on their PS4 because you'll risk a console ban and have a very bad time.

... Also don't scalp. That's unrelated to the above discussion. It's just shitty.

What if I don't do any fact checking and instead we just do an apology/retraction segment every week

Digital only is impossible to scalp.

Unfortunately it also means that if you cannot backup the game when it gone is gone.

And the firmware still buggy as hell, PS5 consoles being stolen by Amazon drivers, yeaaaaaah, no thanks.

Well, Amazon is not the only place to buy the thing, unless you live in the USA then you are done for.

Here for example I could buy it with package tracking, 30 day give it back (and get my money back) confirmation of delivery and so on.

Just... taxes and and weak economy makes the thing really expensive in my country.

And this, boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen, is why digital-only consoles are a giant facepalm moment IMHO!

I mean, if you ban a console like that, you're asking for that person to potentially wait to get it hacked and to start pirating everything.

Also, what is this "PS+ Collection?" Is it a set of, like, the top PS+ games from the ones to be featured during the PS4's life cycle? Or is this some weird thing that can't be transferred because Sony was scrambling to get things ready for the PS5's launch, as is evidenced by the larger-than-George-Foreman-Grill-PS3 launch design and said design still having reports of overheating?

At least is not self destruct like 56% of Xbox 360s did until the latest revision.

I am so glad I never bought one cause... the fuck... OVER HALF THE THINGS HAD HARDWARE PROBLEMS?

Good thing I only got the PC Xbox 360 controller instead.

Same. That's why I went with a PS3 back in 2011 when I saved up for the thing thanks to my parents being a little generous and being willing to pay me to do some stuff around the house, as well as an older brother who paid me to pull some weeds from a garden he started work on, but didn't have all that much time to dedicate to thanks to his job.

The PS+ Collection is basically a set of 20 PS4 games you get access to if you're a PS+ subscriber and have logged your console into a PS5. They're not all games that have been on PS+, it's just what Sony considered the defining games of the previous generation.
