HBO's The Last of Us TV show gets greenlit, production to start soon

t7crfPV.png

A few months ago back in March, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that HBO would be creating a television series adaptation of The Last of Us. Information about the project since then has been minimal at best, but now the series has been officially greenlit, meaning progress is going smoothly and production will begin soon. HBO also re-confirmed the fact that Craig Mazin from Chernobyl and Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann are working on the show as executive producers and writers, along with Carolyn Strauss, of Game of Thrones fame. There's still no information about when the show is set to be released, or who will be involved in the cast, currently, though once it does release, it'll be aired on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max.

Including the final season? Not much of a recommendation, that. :tpi:
Top 10 ways to make me never want to watch something.

But no, according to IMDb, she worked on the series all the way from the start to the end (barring any episodes that aired in 2018...?) as exec producer.

Not sure how to feel about this. Then again, I'm never a fan of video game to TV adaptations.
I’m sure some are just slipping my mind currently, but how many live action TV adaptations of games exist outside of Witcher? Unless you’re counting animated ones like Dragon’s Dogma.

100% counting animated as well. They're all risky moves, and aside from Dmc? I haven't seen one that's kept my attention. Granted, I have not watched Witcher yet.

Provided they don't make some truly idiotic changes to the setting and story there's no reason this shouldn't work, TLOU is already a (barely) interactive movie anyway.

Is the Witcher an adaptation of the game, or of the books?

I'm optimistic. The way the game is setup actually can make it easy to format it into individual episodes. TLOU segments all of its chapters into different locations and puts in breaks with cutscenes for time skips. Problems only start to happen when they make the episodes longer than they have to be as they will force them to make new material which can be hit or miss.

The Castlevania Netflix series was really good. And what about movies? I really enjoyed the Dead Space movie (the first one, not the weird, CG sequel). I think motion picture adaptations can be done right provided the right studio is behind it. Also, wouldn't The Witcher series be an adaptation of the books since that's what the games are?

Got high hopes.

AMC has run TWD to the ground so I hope HBO can make a quality zombie series.
